How come I often see that breeders, brokers etc. specifically point out that dogs/pups are free from these dogs? I know their lines have been overused but has linebreeding to these dogs caused problems in temperament, drive, sharpness, etc? I see dogs being overused alot in showlines but no one ever points out that a pups/dogs' lines are free of Ulk or Jeck etc. Thanks, Melanie

It depends on the breeder most times in why or why not they may advertise "Mink or Fero" free. Some have no earthly clue or should I say have never witness any of the "myths" or "beliefs" on these dogs but do this because of hearsay based on their mentors or notable breeders theories on the dogs. With that said.... some say linebreeding on Mink should be done with care since Mink carried high aggression. Fero has had a cost of things said about linebreeding on him including enviromental issues, slick floor issues and some simply say YES he was overbred and to breed a bitch linebred on him to a stud linebred on him will certainly lead the working line to the "disaster pond" the showlines drowned in. Oh boy...here we go!

Ok , As far as the "slick floor issues thats a load of crap , I have had many dogs out of Fero and line breed on him and have neaver seen this , I know of many dogs also out of Fero and Have not seen this in them eather , As far as Mink carried high aggression. Well thats a personal OP. , Some trainers say he did other say it was fine , as far as line breeding on Mink , Harro , Ferro , or any other dogs , Well that is up to the breeder why or why not I would have to say that to say that if you say no Ferro , Harro , or mink or any other dogs its to let people know that there are other dogs out there that are just as good and to let other people know that hey I have a litter with out this dog or that dog in the ped , If you dont like Mink or Harro or Ferro that a dog with out them would be good for you . Lets nock off "myths" or "beliefs its bad for the breed in hole , If you dont like a dog than dont use it in your breeing but dont cut on it as there are may dogs out of this breeding take a look and look at how may dogs with this line are at the TOP ! I think this should speek for it self

Yes over useing a male or female can hurt the breed , But There are so many dogs out there to use to breed with , So lets rember to think before we all run to the next big thing ( Dog) to breed with , Take a look around a see how many other people are using this dog , and look at what the said dog is doing FOR the Breed , Then make up your mined to use or not to use this dog , My OP of Mink , Harro , Ferro is I like the dogs that have come out ove them , for the most part , But I have seen many bad ones to I think most of it is what the BUYER does with the dog how it was trained and raised this is big in making a ok dog good and Makeing a good dog Junk , TRAINING if you do it right you WILL HAVE A GOOD dog , ( I know BUT its raly a Training thing !

Brandoggy... what I meant by the "slick floor" deal is some have noted close or linebred descendants of Fero may have issue when used on slick surface. Meaning they have issues with slick surface. Again let me reiterate that it's hearsay and I am not endorsing any of the statement I mentioned above. The question was why some noted avoiding Fero and Mink and/or Harro. My experience is this is not always the truth. I have some dogs linebred on both and while some can be true to some extent (i.e. Mink carrying aggression), you can always get the opposite. So I don't take any of this as gospel I take a look at both the dam and sire and the pups and determine if it's a good pup or dog. Not on the myths, phobias, and hearsay of such dogs. On another note, while training plays a great role in the results of a pup or dog, genetics are genetics. That's another conversation entirely Hope you got some sense of this now GSDFAN in why some state Fero, Mink or Harro free

I'LL TAKE ANY OF THESE GREAT DOGS IN SMALL PORTIONS, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, TO MUCH OF ANY OF THESE DOGS WILL BE SEEN DOWN THE ROAD, I HAVE A GREAT GRANDSON OUT OF MINK'S TOUGHNESS SON IKO LINDENHALLE, AND HE HAS NO FERO OR HARRO,SO ADDING A BIT OF FERO WITH HARRO WITH THIS MINK GREAT GRANDSON WILL BRING VERY GOOD, MAYBE GREAT DOGS, OR MAYBE SOME BAD DOGS,BUT THE CHANCES OF GETTING ALL BAD IS VERY LOW, TO MUCH OF ANY OF THEM WILL GIVE YOU THE EXTREME, IM NOT LOOKING FOR EXTREME,THERE ARE VERY VERY FEW PEOPLE WHO WILL WANT EXTREME, OR HELL CAN EVEN HANDLE IT FROM ANY OF THESE DOGS.JMO

Good dogs are where you find them. There are good and bad dogs from most all lines. This was my Grandson of Fero who was double bred off Flori. He had tons of drive, flat ears and was a coward. Im certain dogs with similiar peds were great dogs. Sometimes its a roll of the dice. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/346392.html

Very true on the last post by decoyD. It is a roll of the dice in what you get. Some good, some bad. My boy is linebred on Fero and I will be honest...he has no problems. There will always be people whom dislike Fero,Mink, &/or Harro and ones that love them. Take what great comes from these lines and extend them for the future.
