I have a 3 year old Airedale Terrier and just last summer she started having skin problems.  It started with a few bumps on her back but now the bumps are EVERYWHERE on her body.  She is constantly scratching, licking and biting her skin...I try to brush her but it makes her skin bleed.  I was told by the vet that it could be an allergy but there really is no way to tell the cause.  She has been on and off antibiotics plus I have switched her food numerous times but nothing seems to be working.  I recently purchased some Omega 3 supplements and a Hot Spot spray to hopefully help but it's too early to tell.  I am at my wit's end and don't know what to do anymore.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Our Airedale is having the exact same problem. The vet has treated him with anti-biotics, prescription anti-bacterial shampoo and checked for mites. While the vet said there were no mites seen, I have read that these are sometimes NOT seen. I called the vet back and said that perhaps these are mites, so we are trying to dose him with Ivermectin, increasing the dosage from .5 cc to 1cc then 1.5 cc. He really hates it and is isolating due to the stress this is causing --both pain and itching plus unpleasant medication. We started the Ivermectin 8 days ago and have to do 30 days in order to kill the mites because their life cycles are approximately 23 days. At 8 days his back is clearing up slightly, but the infestation has moved to his sides and underbelly.  He has scratched himself raw and is very unhappy.

Did you ever resolve the problem? I had found a product called Promeris which has the added value of killing mites. Unfortunately our dog tolerates Revolution but had a severe allergic reaction to Frontline. From what I've read on this site, I am scared to give him such a strong drug if he can't even handle Frontline.

Has anyone else experienced similar ?? Thank you.

Hi,
We are having the same issues with our 4 year old male Airedale. He has been struggling with the skin issues for the past year. He has been on and off the antiboitics, and prendazone. We at first had the spots on his chest and groin area and then we got the bad bumps on his back. Those were bloody. We are now immune to two antiboitics and now are on a more powerful antiboitic. We were so close to getting rid of it but now he has spots on his groin again. Our vet said he has bacterial colonies that form because of his really oily skin. Then he gets the spots. He is having us was our dog in Dawn Dishsoap once a week. I think it is helping. It will dry out their skin becuase it is a degreaser but that is what the vet wanted for our dog. So, you think it may be mites? Please keep us up to date!! It's really frusturating. I just don't want him to be immune to all antiboitics and I hope we are not close to that.
