Someone didn't have any fun at the BBQ? You know, the one after the parade?
I certainly know many folks who take comfort visiting the grave site of a loved one. Sacred resting places for bones are nothing new. It is a basic human idea of respectfulness to observe differing customs in regards to the handling of the dead, even if one does not embrace them.
That is why there are wills. I believe you Moons, that you just don't care where you end up. Maybe, just maybe, someone who would mourn you will have a different idea. Comfort is for the living, as are all funerals. I thought that was common knowledge. What to do I wonder, if your mourner wanted a permanent memorial to your memory but by doing so, they would be going against your living nature. What a dilemma for the living.
My mom's ashes are scattered all over the world courtesy of my intrepid traveling brother. A bit odd to think there is a bit of her way high up on a mountain in Nepal. And some more bits on a Caribbean island. More, gone out to sea, to travel the currents.
I really am not keen on being an ash saver even though I have a few of our dearly departed dogs sitting on a shelf in the garage, somewhere. Can't quite make myself toss them in the garbage, so there they sit. My DH won't set foot in a graveyard. Superstitious or something. I used to love riding horses in the oldest graveyards as a teenager. One GF I know, made sure the whole family got a bit of their mom's ashes and it was very important to all the recipients. She had to be careful, too, that all the containers were the same to prevent family infighting.
According to you, you fled or evaded the draft when you were called to sign up. So your chiding response to honor the fallen during their war service is not so surprising.

Let me explain what I got from the picture and its captions.
YR is right, I did not know about the direction the US media
took with this whole topic. What I read the "Its Memorial Day...
(it isn't) BBQ Day" as was the originators of this picture saying
that the woman has no right to be sorrowing at the grave
DRESSED FOR A BARBIE.
Which to me - in Bee's words - would be incredibly insensitive to
the grief shown to the loss of her soldier.

Oh, I see, now. You thought it was a pun, the sundress!
Traditionally, Memorial Day is also the start of the swimming pool season, and indirectly, summer. To not have your pool opened and ready for swimming by Memorial Day would be undesirable by most social norms. At least in states that have cold season's.
The temperature made it into the 80s, here. I turned on the upstairs AC, it sure did get hot!

Dear Bee,
I do not need to visit a grave to remember my loved ones who have passed away.
I guess some do.
I do care where I will end up, I'll be right where I wanna be, in my own garden..LOL
As for the draft, we didn't have a choice back in those days except to break the law and many did just that.
Millions protested to end that damned war, many turned their backs on those who made it home alive as well.
You know nothing of war Dear Bee.

Certainly not I...

Double Post! LOL

ML: Uh... oh!!! You stuttered and made this a sticky or a push pin, or whatever the heck we call it now! LOL
Moons: I will bet you an all-white war horse, that we have been in the same amount of wars. What do you know that I don't know? I saw it on the 6 o'clock news, with Walter Cronkite, the same as you.

by Mountain Lion on 27 May 2014 - 23:05
Moons, was this you when they had the draft?

by Two Moons on 28 May 2014 - 02:05
Mountain Lion,
No matter how hard you try, no matter what name you go by, you've never been cute, or funny.
It must be very frustrating.
beetree,
What do I know that you don't?
Volumes my dear, volumes.
It has absolutely nothing to do with Walter Cronkite, and I believe we've had this conversation at least once before.
There are those who deserve to be honored, and those who do not.
I will not cheapen the memory of one for the other.
Quote of the day?
Hardly.
