1doggie2, I don't disagree that your approach is the right one. I just don't know it would work fast enough to change the public's perception or to prevent BSL. It's a tough call, no doubt about it and it's going to take a lot of brainstorming to generate a plan that will work for the breed.
The insurance companies use dog bite stats provided by the feds. I've forgotten the name of the group that tracks dog bites. Maybe someone else knows? Anyway, GSD's, like many other breeds, are often blamed for bites by mixes that happen to look like GSD's. I think if the average man on the street were bitten by any dog that was black and tan they would say it was a GSD or a Rottie.
Yes, let them eat cats............

I think you have a good point about mixes and being labeld as GSD's and adding up the numbers of bites. I use to do some dog walking for our local SPCA, they labeled everything GSD. But the Long Hairs, those they had no clue. But with your reasoning-I am glad.
Actually at the time I found my insurance company funny, they were not worried about the GSD's I had only the Dal. Should have heard them when they found out I had rotties also.

Two things.
Can someone get the address to the Louisville Directors office? If this is the best place to let the powers that be know in writing that as a potential tourist I will never step foot in Louisville as long as they have these types of ordinances.
I have never been an AKC fan, but perhaps now they can earn their money and actually do something worthwhile and address this issue. They should have some clout.
Usually, numbers carry some weight, so if all concerned about this would take a minute to send a letter it might influence them to rethink their position. Also, if I was in Louisville and my dog got loose through no fault of my own, say a breakin of my vehicle, and they nuetered my prize dog then they would be looking at a real big lawsuit not to mention the press coverage. Maybe someone has more ideas along these lines. Actions do speak louder then preaching to the choir. Point being that everyone that reads this thread needs to voice this to the right people. Cities place a High Priority on MONEY that comes in via tourists. This issue needs not die here as has been mentioned it will be where we all live if it,s not dealt with. Personally I will not buy so much as a Louisville slugger next time I need a bat.

P.S. Yes Shelley, Bill O would have a field day with this one, not good for Louisville!
Boycotting Louisville is great as long as they know they are being boycotted.

I am in.
You know you might be on to something. We do have alot of people from all over the world on this board. We have flooded servers before, we can do it again. Might not hurt for anyone out there to include the horse people, most have dogs. If we can let them know all of us Travelers are going to stay out of their city. If this can be done and noticed, may prevent other cities from going down this road.
I would think we need to someone to take this up, for an organized assult, and we can all get behind them. Is there someone in Louisville, who can??

I also think this should be thought out and done correctly, so we get the most impact.
Do we come up with a safe alternative, that will work for everyone? If so what?
Or just say no way?

I am also sure there are other breeds that have chat rooms, and would get on board.

Some I know are sending letters in protest stating that they will never spend a dime in the city of Louisville.
Another approach is to request a copy of Ordinance No 233, Series 2006, of the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government Code of Ordinances. I've read some letters that say they are considering entering the Kentuckiana Cluster Shows at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center March 15th through the 18th and want to make sure they understand the law as it pertains to any dogs they may have in their vehicle, in their possession or in their control. Since they are tentatively planning to enter the Lousiville city corporate ares to purchase supplies and to dine, they want to be sure they first understand the law.
