One of the things I decided when looking for a pup was I would not buy a pup without seeing it in person.
This worked out pretty well. The first registered pup I bought will be 13 years old in January, and has excellent health and temperament. Because I was new to the GSD show world, however, she didn't turn out to be the show dog I'd hoped for.
I broke the rule with the second dog I got, but that was because I knew the person from her post on the database, and she knew me. That has worked out very well, too! The breeder also posted pictures and videos of the pups, which helped in making a decision.
