Ursus - Page 2

Maybe the new Ursus is an Am lines dog, god forbid? Anyone have the studbooks? If there is a Ursus z Batu, he will be in the stud book. There's a project for someone, putting the GSD studbook on a disk. I have one for the Alaskan Malamute sold by our rescue group as a fund raiser. In less than a minute I can do a pedigee on every dog that has ever produced an AKC registered litter. It's really great. It would be a huge job for the GSD breed, but could be done.

I am serious about the C.K.C. issue. For many years I knew little about them, but something that happened two (2) years ago caused me to suddenly discover a lot of things about their registry programme. Aproximately two (2) years ago, a client of mine received a visit from a woman who offered (for a decent price) two (2) GSD's from the best bloodlines who were German-born and imported. Over the telephone I asked her who was in the pedigree, and she began naming some prestigious VA dogs and bitches. Some of it did not make sense, especially when approaching the dogs in generations one (1) and two (2). So I asked her to fax the pedigree to me. The pedigrees were issued by the C.K.C.. After a few quick checks, there was not any way these dogs were who the pedigree said they were-just as I suspected. Essentially, these dogs were from a Missouri breeder, and had somehow "suddenly" lost their German connections. A quick search through the websites of the A.K.C., the O.F.A. and the S.V. revealed neither of these dogs or their first and second generation ancestors. A quick search of the A.K.C.'s pedigree database found more than fourty (40) GSD's named "Ursus", but no Ursus von Batu, Ursus vom Batu, or Ursus zum Batu. As much as I detest the practices of the A.K.C., I still trust them a bit more than the C.K.C. or most of the other "registries". Bob-O
