At least you recognize that you are naive.

My experience, from being in clubs that actually hosted shows, including the Sieger Show, is that those perennial "Open" entries do not donate a dime for any trophies, or anything else. They are not entering to "support the club," as usually they are not members of any club and never will be. They are also the first to light out during a lunch break and, despite the cost and effort by the hosting club to provide food at the site, they light out to the nearest fast-food joint (even if it is miles away) and have the nerve to bring it back to the site. You don't get "support" from them in terms of trophies, or concessions.
What you do get is their garbage from Wendy's/McD's/Burger King, et al that you (the hosting club) must pick up and throw away, because they don't even have the home-training and manners to place their "imported" garbage in the proper receptacles. And don't even get me started about NOT picking up after their dogs.

What you do get is whining and complaining that the trophies (toward which they contributed nada) aren't "big enough." Or, their dog's name isn't already engraved on it (WHAT? Clubs are supposed to be clairvoyant and know in advance who's winning what?). Oh, yeah, then there's the one who is miffed because they did not get the first place and want to argue about it, right there in the field. (And, of course, they go on the internet to gripe about it, too.)
This is not judging harshly. It is simply stating the facts and describing the reality.

I buy food even its those crappy Cosco burgers and hot dogs I wouldn't feed my dog, just to support the host club.
Why can't clubs serve Mac & cheese or lasange or something instead of junk?

Some do! Cascade had a workshop weekend a couple of weeks ago and we had chicken adobo and lumpia for lunch. An assortment of pastries and bagels for breakfast (even lox!). The second day we had made-to-order omelets for breakfast. Yummy!
We have had lasagna at trials. On the rare occasions that we've had the ubiquitous brats, they were the "good ones."
We have some very talented, and generous, members (and their families, who help put on the spread)!
....and you KNOW that you do recognize a bunch of people from my description.

We too have some great cooks here in the Midwest and I can't say that I did not like the food anywhere except at last fall's NASS. They just were not prepared at all! Reminds me to call our caterer for the SS and make sure they are ready for the crowd.

Yes, I have been around the show world too long. Just around it--not of it. That would drive me nuts!!
The
"wrong one"? I don't know what that means--I've been around the same one, with the same people that you have.
