Michele---IMO......way too much of those combined supplements. I googled Hokamix to examine the ingredients. Nothing I read led me to believe the company reveals the amount of each component. Am I right? For example---does the label on your Hokamix jar actually inform you HOW MUCH vitamin C is in each scoop...100mg?.....300mg? I won't use these mixtures. Prefer the individual, human vitamins. I want to know and regulate what my dog ingests. Also...any vitamin or supplement should be added gradually and one at a time to properly observe for reactions and tolerance levels. Sorry i wasn't more explicit with my protocol.
Hope your dog gets on track. Another tip...which you probably already know (lol)---predose with Benadryl before administering heartworm meds OR flea-tick preventatives OR vaccinating.
Yellow---Mine get a carrot after breakfast every morning. Stare at the fridge and won't budge from that spot til they get one.

No, I had never heard of that. I just applied Revolution. Because of yesterday's incident, I had given him benadryl with dinner. I will do that from now on.
There is controversy about whether Revolution has any effect on Demodex. It cures Sarcoptic and ear mites but the labeling says that it has no affect on Demodex. But, after the hours and hours and hours that I have spent researching it, there are quite a few vets who are prescribing it as a part of the treatment. A dose and then repeat in two weeks, just like for sarcoptes.
Lots of people have told me that they used Goodwinol and it worked really fast. It seems like it is one of these things that is really going around (as if it were contagious?) but nobody is admitting it publicly.
I guess I will donate the opened kibble to the Humane Society and put the other bags (little 4 pound bags) in the garage for a while.
Has anyone else read that the mites feed on starches and sugars?
I just washed Pharaoh's pillow cases and the throw I keep on his bed. I took the suggestion about hot water and dryer and used good old Twenty Mule Team Borax in the wash.

Read this shocking statement : "Classically Demodex mites have been felt to only be transferable from mother to newborn pup. After the pup is a week or so old, it has developed enough immunity so that infection is no longer possible. In other words, after age one week or so, a dog will not longer accept new mites on its body....Recently this idea has been challenged as occasionally multiple unrelated dogs break with demodicosis in the same household. It is not clear if some species of Demodex are more contagious than others or if some contagion is possible under certain circumstances. Current thinking is that mites actually can be transferred from one dog to another but as long as the dog is healthy, the mites simply add into the dog's natural mite population and no skin disease results. Isolation of dogs with even the most severe demodicosis is still felt to be unnecessary; though, in rare circumstances contagion is possible. While there are still assorted theories about dog to dog transmission of Demodex mites, there is no question that mites cannot be transmitted to humans or to cats."
There are now incidents proved by scrapings that humans have caught it from their dogs see this link http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/dem.html

I had a tiny 1/4 inch patch of what looks exactly like that picture. It did not itch and disappeared in a couple of days. I can tell you that my immune system is extremely efficient. I haven't had a cold or flu in many years even though I have been around people who are ill.
