I would definitely check out Caine.  He's throwing some very nice pups and I hear they are very bold.  He's just a Sch.1 but I can't remember why Nate told me he still was.  They are in the Indy area.

I am proud of my black GSD, even with his white spot :)  You can kind of see the spot in the snow picture.  It was small enough I always thought it would go away but it didn't.  Oh well, he's still great in my eyes :)

How far are you wanting to go to get a stud?  I think that will determine alot if you want to drive correct?  Who did you use last time?

What about Mike Diehl's black czech dog in Indy?

Karmen,
He's beautiful!
I didn't realize how many blacks either have or carry the white breast mark.   Its not a complete turn off to me, I just was hoping to find bloodlines without it.   Indy is about a three hour drive and well within my range.   I have been looking at a couple of dogs in that area.
The previous stud is a working narcotics dog with Louisville Metro and very impressive.  His mark is also very small and not real noticable.
I also looked at a showline black in Florida but I was not wanting that.
My bitch is nothing on paper but what I see in her besides good health and temperment are her natural abilities, excellent nose, keen hearing, she thinks and has street sense.   Very protective, a wondeful mother, lots of energy and endurance.
She holds no titles, probably came from a puppy mill for all I know in Missouri.
I did speak to the breeder once.
I would like to see pups with a little better coat and conformation but everything else about her I am pleased with.
They are so beautiful in the snow, a little hard to see in the dark..lol
A stare can be unsettling at times.
Striking.
I would just like to have one that I raised myself.

Moons.

I want to know why people want blocky heads when the standard calls for a dog with a "Wedge" shaped head

Amen, Xeph, amen!

Here (IMO, of course!) is one of the worst examples of an overdone showline:

I know a lot of people out there think he's the cat's pyjamas, but I think he's downright UGLY!!

Can you imagine a dog that heavy and blocky herding sheep all day?

The larger heads are from a time when the breeding was very specific.   Those lines still carry the large head today.
larger head, stronger jaws, more powerful bite?   Maybe more intimidating.  Those lines are much more diverse now.

Well I don't feel my dog is "overdone", he has a beautiful head.
