Kerry-anne, If you go back and read Linda's post, she explains quite clearly why she did the test.

Kerry please read my post again as I explain why our dog was tested.

Sorry Linda, but I did read it and yes David offered for our dogs in our Kennels to be Volunteer's, as at that time we was very good friends with David, but we said NO as we diddn't believe in the test, and our 2 top Vet's said the same, when it very first come to light, and David know's this and accepted that we would not be Volunteer's. We diddn't think Kennels would actually go with this test. But a few Kennels did and we can't believe the outcome.

Hi Kerry. Sorry for my late reply , I just don't have time to look on here that often so if you or anyone needs to contact me I do check emails more often or phone me.
In answer to your question ......... NO, I would not feel any different about the test .
I actually purchased from Dogenes enough tests for all of my dogs at the beginning shortly after David was asking for volunteers. As there were numerous doubts emerging regarding the test with questions and points of view from both sides I made various enquiries and was advised by several scientific people to hold off on the tests for a while , so I did exactly that .
I was never happy with how the swabs arrived in non sterile plastic pouches, and as Linda .B. stated the swabs could have been from any dog . I have all the tests still sitting here. The only reason I tested Zasko was because I was asked to .
I am not saying that JRD does not exist at all ( like many other problems ) but I am questioning whether it is severe enough to do our breed any great harm in the future or not since its meant to have been around for donkeys years already ? . We all know that many other nasty problems run in families and we all know what they are and what families they come from . There are new problems arising from time to time and will continue to do so, I would like to think that responsible breeders would endeavour to do the best for our breed ( pigs might fly ! ).
One of my main concerns is that this test is meant to be confidential ..... WHY , WHY , WHY ?. What is the point of having any test if its confidential ?. If any hereditary or contagious problem is kept confidential and owners of affected dogs stay silent then the test becomes totally useless in my opinion !, that means you could go out tomorrow and use whatever top dog you like BUT how the hell will you know if its a JRD carrier or not ???.
If the test was done in a similar way to the haemophilia test where a vet has to sign and verify that the right dog was being tested and that the results are automatically sent to the Breed Council and the K.C. direct from the laboratory so all results are available for us all to see then surely this is the right and only way forward for our breed with whatever health tests become available in the future ???.

With respect, you do seem to torture yourself so, Lynn!
As Linda said, there’s no evidence that JRD exists, either presently or in the past (speaking of our breed only).
According to all I’ve read, and as partly insinuated by the above, the test itself is well nigh proven to be of doubtful validity.
How may further baseless speculation and misleading test results in any way amount to doing the best for our breed, if not in fact harming it?
Much better to now devote our energies to the very real problems that do exist? And lest we end up uselessly going about in circles forever and a day?

Now I have to be carefull how I put this, because I always seem to put my foot in it!!
I am not convinced that JRD exists in the GSD, and untill this Dog Genes test(or any other) is proven to be valid, then how can anyone be sure of it's existence. What puzzles me, and this is a QUESTION not a statement--If JRD can only be tested for by the DOG GENES test, or confirmed by biopsy, then why was Buster diagnosed from a simple blood test at the Vet???Maybe I didn't read Buster's Story correctly, although I have read it more than once, so maybe someone can shed some light on my QUESTION.

Fiona, that is why i asked the question, how long does the test take from swab to result?. LYN C, your post is spot on and i wish ALL breeders could be more like you. As for Linda B she has said that like most of us when this first appeared we thought ,we have to do something, but gradually as more came to light people realized JRD was not as rife as was first thought, nor was the test reliable. liz
