Yup, that's my Dutch, He was named after the bootlegger Dutch Schultz.. I have owned 4 dogs named Dutch since him. Every one laughs at me when ever I get a new one and name it Dutch. I'm such  a sap head, I can't let him go.

Lili Marlene, circa 1990:
My first dog
My first GSD
My first rescue.

I'd forgotten what a lovely head she had! She had to be euthanized at the age of 9, due to degenerative arthritis in her
spine. We only had 4 years together. Given the extremely malnourished condition she'd been in when I adopted her,
I guess I was lucky we had that long. I remember seeing her as a pup (she originally belonged to a neighbour of my
uncle's) and even at that young age, she was so skinny, I nearly called the humane society!

P.S. Vianden, could you post your pics so they're not side by side? They're stretching the page something awful!

Just put in a carriage return....um....er...dating myself there...   ....line up the cursor with the right margin of the first picture, then press 'enter' to get the next one to go to a new line all by itself.

We got our first GSD Dutchess in 1965, I have old pictures but no scanner at the moment.
She was gold with no mask and only a faded saddle back, she lost her hips at 14 and we put her down a year later.
I carried her myself in the end, in and out of the house , around the yard, and to her favorite spot at the foot of my bed.
She had a favorite game where she would go around a bush and sneek up behind people walking up to  the back door.
I've had thirteen GSDs in all since Dutchess.

I named his daughter Dutchess. lol. I called her puppy her whole life. 13 years of being called puppy she probably never knew her name was Dutchess. She used to have to wait for me on a long hike ,her last year I had to wait for her. I sat and cried over it, swore to never take her hiking again. I would be an hour into the hike  turn around and there she would be looking at me like why didn't you tell me you were going out for a walk. . She knew all the short cuts.

Sorry Sunsilver didn't mean to rune your day by posting my pictures side by side. I will try harder next time to get it right.

The first Shepherd I had was only 3/4 shepherd 1/4 husky... he was amazing...

The First purebred I got to work with was Sundown Over Shilo, CD, OFA. (1972) He did a bit of everything with me. Pet Therapy before it was popular with the retarded were I worked as a recreation therapyst... Shi would so gently ease up so that the ladies in wheelchairs could pet him... then later that day we'd go up to the training field and do Personal Protection work... Dog Sledding was a special favorite of his... had a number of trophies from the Connecticut Siberian Husky club.  Showed in breed (white GSD shows in the 70's) and in obedience.  Did protection demonstrations at a number of dog obedience clubs.  I wish I'd known more then and gone for Schutzhund work with him as he'd have been steller, and fun... but he taught me so much about training dogs... and forgave my errors...  one of my favorite pictures of him was doing a demo at the fair of a Dog tredmill with my Grandfather and I in the background...  He went everywhere, and was loved by many.   I went to his breeder to get a Black/tn  female... but the moment I saw Shi... it was all done... lol
