Bob-O, Many of us had the opportunity to learn the answer to this question when we were very young. We had the opportunity to study from a small book called THE CHILDRENS CATACHISM. This was a small book with questions and answers. The first three questions and answers gives the answer to your question. Here they are below:
1. Who made you?
Answer: God.
2. What else did God make?
Answer: All thiings.
3. Why did God make you and all things?
Answer: For His own glory.,
There is a lot of wisdom in these three questions. The Chatachism is full of answers to questions of this nature. You may obtain one from most any Christian bookstore. ecs

I can tell you why, it is because young people have so much now and do not really appreciate it so they get no pleasure from it
When i was young, my clothes were made up from Army and RAF Great Coats, Pockets and all even after the world war 11 we had them for several years,
Toys, I never had any bought Toys mother could not afford them, once a week we had 4 ozs of toffees shared between 10 of us about half a toffee each kid and it was looked forewards to,
The only Toys we had were what we made ourselves, from pram wheels and a plank of wood ,the front wheels and axel held on with a bolt without the nut the back ones held on by nails and we used to go down steep hills with them a piece of rope nailed on to guide it. sometimes the bolt would jump out of the hole and we had no front but finished up with a lot of gravel rash
Another toy was the Bow and Arrows we made up and the catapults we made
And we were happy doing it ,simple pleaures are the best of all and i have never regreted one moment of my past as a child or would i have changed it,
Tell a lie, perhaps i would for my mothers sake so for that Yes, and as Bob says drinking a beer after training is as good as it gets or as much as i want. A simple quiet life for me. that to me is a pleasure

The recent news of the passing of a old friend has put me to reflect on my life decessions i,ve made and paths i,ve taken, Eric Clapton,Billy Withers,Paul Simon have all been treating my frame of mind as of late, so many times we wonder what would of been if only?, Love as hard as you can as ofen as you can, drink deep from this mixture of life and don,t whine over the bitter dregs, push as hard as you can, hold as long as you can, look at your self in a mirror as hard as you look at others with your own eyes, life is short do what you can as much as you can as long as you can and take nothing for granted.

Sorry about your friend, Bob. Death does put a different perspective on things... we're all just visitors.

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, one of those days is YESTERDAY, with all it's mistakes and cares, faults and blunders, aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. We cannot undo a single act or erase a single word we said, YESTERDAY.
The other day we should not worry about is TOMORROW, with its' possible adversities, it's burdens, it's large promise, and poor performance, TOMORROW is also beyond our immediate control.
This leaves only one day - TODAY- any man can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities -YESERDAY adn TOMORROW that we break down.
It is not the experience of TODAY that drives men mad- it is remorse or bitterness for something which happened YESTERDAY and the dread of what TOMORROW may bring.
Therefore, let us live one day at a time.
