if someone is going to hurt or kill an animal they would problem do the same to you.  yes some crazy ass crooks are willing to do anything.

I want to know the idiot that buys a pup for instant protection, or the seller that advises buyer the pup will take care of your family. They will be looking for older dogs, but will they be willing, or able to pay what the breeder has into the dog, vet, food, time, training. Will they be able to take care of the dog? I have been all over close friends who do not have dogs to get one for just this reason.
By the way, I am in Southern CA, have girlfriend that loves Dobbies, will be looking for breeder with female approx 1 year of age. Not in any hurry. PM me if you know of a GOOD breeder that tells it like it is.

With the economy, the only breeders likely to make a profit are the BYBs.  People are going to look for deals on dogs and sacrifice quality.  I've noticed on some large breeders websites, that usually have puppies reserved before the litter is born, that they still have whole large litterS ready to leave and no buyers... but still aren't slowing down on mating their dogs.  Of course it is easier to place young puppies than older ones, so maybe they hope the economy will turn around when their next litters are ready to go.  I definitely think the responsible breeder would cut down on the number of litters they are producing at this time. 

Good breeders can also just as easily give good deals, as percentage compared to the past,  in tough times, the variable cost don't differ much, $100 each pup for higher stud fee and AI fee etc.
