If you are considering this surgery make sure it's an experienced ortho vet. Have heard of successful FHO's done.

As far as giving the dog back to the breeder...don't kid yourself. The breeder will  most  likely put the dog down. Homes for dysplastic dogs are not easy to come by.

Steve,  I just learned today of your loss,
very hard for me to comprehend, it's never easy,
you were very good to her, and I'll always remember the
pictures of her, she was such a fluff ball,

My heart goes out to you,

  Paula

I speak from extreme experience with both THR and FHO and can say the dog can live TOTALLY NORMAL with either surgery. I worked in the orhtopedic industry for 14 years and was a vet tech for 8 and my dog had several surgeries.  When done by an expert the results can be outstanding.  I am, however, not saying complications cant' occur with THR. But GSD ended up with an FHO and was pain free on that hip.  Her one leg was slightly shorter than the other which is why it looked like a slight limp...NO PAIN, just a shorter leg but most couldn't tell if they didn't know she had surgery.  Take in all the options, find the best specialist.  Just because a dog has HD does not mean euthansia...There is also stem cell which from what I hear has had some success.  Check all options before euthanasia..that should be the last result

"With all this said, I have contacted the breeder and they want her back.  So she will be rehomed and live a happy as possible life. Thanks again. Norma"

Good for the breeder!

Update. Baretta was PTS today. She went for a 2nd opinion and the Vet agreed in her case it was the kindest thing to do.
