Don't care about what Max said.

Human beings in 2009 and onward see a dog and see what they, individually, see valuable about it.

Some people think as if Max is a founding father of a nation; even if he was a nation changes.

there are exceptions to any rule.Yes that dog that has PROVEN  ITSELF to an ethical breeder . Most that have proven themselfs are exceptions to that rule. but as since we live in a gray world we need rules to govern the civilized interaction between men. With the astronomical prices being ask of puppies these days all that is seen is son of ;grandson of . great bloodlines. wonderful drive  a picture and one asks and I have seen it here where is the title. But it seems that the whole world could care less about any rule established to promote improvement but are more concerned about what they want. I ask several days ago about parameters and advice about what to look for when contemplating breeding Halo vom  Mittlewest one reply was I should not breed. Well what about that some one telling me what to do with my dog. Now that her mother is titled and dad is a top rated stud . Makes no sense to me . I gues what is good for everyone else is a no no for me. So be it  I let it rest.

I don't think any one cares how much you spend titling etc. on your dog. Betterment of the breed I just love that statment, most of the time I found people full of them self using this statment lol. Don't like don't buy it, don't breed it, etc. What everyone dose with their dog is up to them not you. I don't know if you noticed but max is dead and his breed is nowhere where it used to be weather breeders fallowed SV regulation or not. lol And please show me where Max states to not breed untitled dog, than you maybe have a case.

how many litters have you bred Raymond,  how many dogs have you titled?  how long have you been involved in the breed?

Frequently original intent of a founder is out of touch with reality.

I think the majority of  owners of the GSD don't need their pet to do much work, and have less proclivity or time to train it than the fervent fancier expect them to.   I think frequently some fervent people fancy some much needed critieria of work and foil this onto the general public.

One can very much enjoy having a GSD that looks great, has stable temperament, is affectionate, and is healthy. The GSD is naturally protective, and will create a lot of warning to the owner. This is enough for many if not most owners.

Even the brightest dog is not very bright compared to a human being. Much of this work is predicated on the assumption that its life is cheaper than human life. Why is a police dog sent into a building of unknown risk? It is not that the dog is more able than a police officier; it is that its life is cheaper. The greatest asset of the GSD is its nose, not its teeth. Rewarding to a GSD would be a job as a drug sniffing dog, for example, no risk just work.

I think SchH is useful if an impetuous criminal actually intrudes. First, any GSD is useful in advising a small time criminal to seek an easier target, not knowing the reward of intrusion. Second, if a criminal is really prepared, a SchH dog can't do much against firearm. In wide open spaces the human being with firearm has the absolute advantage over a SchH dog. Not true?

I fortrightly tell buyers tt my pups are beautiful pets with great conformation records in pedigree, with multiple generations of OFA records. They will have some protection value but no SchH material.  This is what many people want.

I also told them that if protection is the primary reason, they should get a pup from SchH parents and train it very well.

"Betterment of the breed" is a pie in the sky for someone who has just a worthy bitch.

Try approximately maintaining a standard; this is more realistic.

The betterment of a breed, genetically speaking, if it happens, can only be done by the super-studs, who each sires hundreds of pups.

A female has much less impact on the breed, although she can produces a dozen or two very good offspring. Numerically this is reality for a female.

I have 0  liters and 0 titles as of yet. Halo is my first pure bred.  she is 13 months old.I was told that  we breed by the german standard.as a newbie I searched for what is the german standard . And walla I am taken to the German sv breeding criteria. Then I find all sorts of conflcting information . The differences and fighting between the akc sv usa wda. and every other organization professing one thing or another about the German Shepherd Dog.  All the bs fighting between local clubs and the personality and helper  and trainers freaking backstabbing tactics.I am retired now and  Ijust want to do the best I can for my Halo and if at all possible be left with one of her puppies before she departs this world. And enjoy titling and training and working with her. Is this to much to ask for and keep ones integrity?

by HighDesertGSD on 03 February 2009 - 00:02

There is really no reason why a small time breeder who has just a female, from great pedigree, would want her to mate with a non-titled stud. Just doesn't look right on the pedigree of the pups, for one thing.

Same kennel with excellent judgement and reputation may be different.

In my case the stud is an American and Canandian CH with 4 X select sire and CH  ROM dam.
