"The DDR used the dogs for military , police and protection work not sport. There are people who will tell you other wise."

JohnsK9,
I do not know where you got this info from. police dog handlers in the DDR were also members of the
" Sektion Dienst und Gebrauchshundewesen" SDG. Their dogs were titled in Policeschutzhund(PSH) 1,2 and 3
as well as in Schutzhund. The Schutzhund rules were different to now and clearly aligned to source dogs for military, police , prison service and so on. Friendly matches between them and us ( the schutzhund people) were held in both PSH and SchH. Some of us had dogs qualified in both, SchH and PSH.
Of course there was Schutzhundesport in the DDR , I was there doing it ! BTW, thats how I met Frank Schawe and I had
two "Felsenschloss " dogs from him.
All the best

Ulf the dogs were used in sport but they can not compete at the same level of the west.  They just do not have the level drives of the west dogs and if we look at today desired level of drive for the sport dogs these ddr lines are not even in the picture. Frank bred his dogs to many many west lines he was by far no one who tried to keep the  ddr dogs pure.  Sorry i total disagree with you. JMOP

Can we go back to my question what DDR dogs do you have please

by jimbean on 16 January 2009 - 19:01

Hi All

One of my bitches is half ddr (quiyk grafental daughter) which is Sven grafental x zara grafental.  I am not looking to do sch with her, mainly obedience and a bit of working trials.  I love the temperament I have from the grafental input, it is very stable socially but with plenty enough drive for my chosen sport (I am in touch with all 9 of the litter and this seems to be true for all of them).  I also love the conformation and beautiful heads.

I wouldn't rule out a part ddr dog (as in my opening post), any advice re potential line gratefully received.

BTW, the other side of the pedigree is mainly german show lines, Dark vom Arolzer Holz in there a few generations back.  Hope this helps.

Reason   The bloodline i have are The 5a - 12 and the 11 a-b-c-d-e. I have no big name imports. These are the lines i have kept and bred  over the years. You can not find these bloodlines without the remaining dogs found in Germany today which is the bloodline 13a. I bred only from my own dogs and some outside frozen semen. I do not mass produce litters and only breed to maintain these bloodlines. If you want to know why that is my choice to keep them. I do not know of any other breeders trying to maintain the lines and few people know little about the other bloodlines to seek them out. The ddr dog had numbered lines and this is what i would want to know more so then some name.

Cynology in the DDR can be traced predominantly through paternal bloodlines.  These bloodlines are:

5A:  This line descends from Alf v. Nordfelsen and is predominantly propagated by Don v. Rolandsteich and his descendants.  This line is known for producing good conformation and movement; but can produce pigment, temperament and HD.

11A:  This line originates from Rolf v. Osnabruecker Land and is continued predominantly through Bernd v. Lierberg and his descendants like Pushkass v. Haus Himpel and Olf v. Fuerstendamm.  This line produces good temperaments and angulation; but can produce long backs, and weak bones and heads.

11B:  This line descends from Ex v. Riedstern primarily through Cliff v. Bleichfleck.  This line produces good stability, pigment, heads, and expression.  The disadvantages of this line are testicle problems and apathy.

11D:   This line radiates from Ingo v. Rudingen leading to Held v. Ritterberg and Jeff v. Flaemings Sand through his sons Flint v. Steiglerhof, Birko v.d. Wolfshoehle, and most famous of all Lord v. Gleisdreieck.  This line is known for producing sable dogs with strong aggression, but pigment can be a problem within this line.

11E:   This line comes through 2x DDR seiger Condor v. Maderpfahl and radiates through Ohle v. Rundeck into the studs Fels v. Kemmlerblick and Zorro v. Laagerwall.  This line like line 11D produces sable dogs with strong aggression, but pigment can be a problem within this line.

12:  This line today descends primarily from Golf v. Ritterberg and his brother Grand v. Ritterberg.  It is known for producing large typey heads and few testicle problems.  It can produce dogs that are not easy to handle and HD.

13A:  This line today persists primarily through the descendants Alf v. Koernersee.  This line produces dogs that are lively, with good temperaments and character and few coat or testicle problems.  Additionally they are intelligent, but can have large ears, teeth problems, and long backs.
