Thank you, Superdog. I look forward to seeing the report’s details.
All information to date would seem to strongly indicate that JRD, as clinically understood, is absent in the GSD breed, rendering currently available DNA test results meaningless at best.
I welcome your opinion in this regard.
I think it’s fair to say that Buster was misdiagnosed, Linda.

Wuzzup
antifreeze is extremely toxic to dogs and cats and the main symptom of antifreeze poisoning is Renal failure. It can take several days after ingestion for the symptoms to show up. So it is quite possible that the symptoms could be mistaken as JRD.
Chisum
I truly believe that Buster was misdiagnosed as having JRD.
As I have said before there are many different reasons for dogs having renal failure but to date and almost one year after Buster was diagnosed or misdiagnosed as the case me be there is still no scientific/veterinary evidence what so ever that JRD exists in German Shepherd Dogs nor to my knowledge has there been another single case of a German Shepherd dog having been diagnosed with JRD.

Linda, When people say their dogs have been tested for JRD, what test is carried out and how can it be justified if it proves nothing?

by Linda B on 08 November 2008 - 16:11
Missbeeb. The test currently being offered is a DNA test by Dogenes from Canada. Not sure how these samples are being taken now but when Mr Payne first brought JRD to light he requested 20 volunteers to swab for JRD. We offered one of our dogs as a volunteer. we where sent three swabs and I took the swabs from inside the dogs mouth MYSELF( could have been any dog) these where then sent back to Mr Payne who then forwarded them to Dogenes in Canada. We received the results from Mr Payne some weeks later. After which we received through the post a piece of cheep paper claiming to be a certificate and a request from Mr Pain for £5 fee for said Certificate. According to the certificate which was issued early 2008 the dogs date of birth was July 2008 so I had a certificate for a dog who had not yet been born. Very Professional indeed. Needless to say I refused to pay £5 for the so called certificate.
Having initially felt like I am sure many others did that if JRD was present in our breed then we needed to do something about it I quickly realised that there was no actual evidence that JRD did exist in GSDs and that the DNA test being offered had no scientific credibility .
In my opinion I can see no Justification in the test currently being offered by Dogenes and any results are of no value or meaning.
Hope this has answered your question

PS .our dog did come back as clear something we have never advertised as we believe the test is of no value what so ever.

Could someone tell me how long it takes from swab to result please? Linda, i too initially thought omg have to do something quick about this, but now i have absolutely no faith in the test. Such a shame though, the problems this has caused for some breeders/owners. liz

Hi Lin
Just a question that most people may be thinking and it would be good to clear it on here as you have already replied on here. My question is: What would you have done if you dog came back CLEAR, would you have had a different opinion of the test as you must of felt it was right to do the test in the first place?
Kind Regards
Kerry
