When you say a "front" are you talking about recall position?  There are a couple of people in my club who use clicker/marker training for many things with much success, the clicker is  an audible marker.

I had already trained my dog for his obedience (already had his BH) when I switched to Ivan's club in San Francisco.  So, I really only trained with Ivan on the protection work.  Kelly Martin was so good as to work with me on the send out.  I so wish he would start his own Schutzhund Club.  He is such a fabulous trainer.  He is so kind and patient and decent.

I taught my first dog natural attention.  He got all his cues from watching my legs with his side vision and listening to my voice.  He was always looking straigt forward and not cranked to the right.  His heeling was very, very good especially off leash.  He never missed a change in pace or a turn and he did not bump me. He was really easy to teach the dumbell and jumps.  He was a very sober minded shepherd.  He was total attention and eye contact was no problem.  I just taught him using shaping and modeling methods.  But, he was sooooo eager to please.  I thought it was soooooo easy.

My current dog is the polar opposite.  He is a super high drive, head strong, domineering prey monster,

Now, when I think of the opportunity lost  arghh....  I cannot possibly train this one like the first one.  Those methods will not work on Punky Puppy Boy Pharaoh.  Ivan's methods would work just fine, after all, he is a Malinois person.  Unfortunately, I will have to learn Ivan's obedience methods from his videos as Ivan is in Florida now.  I am definitely going to one of his seminars.

If only I had known then........

Michele
