The reason cons are so good is the cons count on people projecting their own conscience or honesty on the con. I am a good person so therefore I want to believe you are a good person. It is human nature to want to believe there is good out there. The cons are good at reading body language and other subconscious cues that the "mark" sends out.

Once the con or criminal is found out with proof (I mean documentable proof) then that person should be shut down. But how many of you have tried to do what is right and had backing only to find yourself alone when push came to shove. If we are to "plunge" the bad ones as Bob says, we have to have each others' backs and not chicken out when the going gets tough. It is easy to talk the talk, but what about walk the walk? I have taken on bad guys with others who had suffered as I had giving me all the verbal support, the "yes, we have your back", "we will support you all the way", etc only to find myself out in the cold with my back end flapping in the breeze all alone, those "supporters" saying "aw gee, it's not that I don't support you but....".

My Grandma always says when choosing between right and wrong, right is always the hardest choice and also the most difficult to follow through on, how else will God judge your worth (not that I am preaching, just repeating what I have been told ). Just a thought

Good post Mindhunt.  I have a soft spot for the underdog and know of what you speak. Saying something and acting on it are two different animals.

Ronnie! I have leftover Devils food chocolate cake with homemade chocolate frosting, my youngest is nine today, will you have a piece, and call it even?

I lost the snickerdoodle recipe, actually I think Dinky ate it! I was just so busy plowing the fields in my organic underwear!

Enjoy the cake, it is good!

It's a great idea in theory, but what can one do? As a trainer, I hear many, many horror stories regarding breeders, and let me tell you, the same names keep popping up over and over. There are a few breeders around here whose names are spoken like a dirty word. But I have to remain tactful, how would it look when an angry breeder calls my boss raging that their puppy buyer's trainer spoke ill of them? As a professional, I can't take that risk.  In a world that is $sue$ happy, people keep their mouths shut to avoid liability. All I can do is recommend people to breeders I DO trust. Even on the internet, I watch my mouth, plenty of people on these boards know who I am and who I work for, and I don't ever want my personal opinions to reflect on them, as I always use my real name.

Yes in my one and half years of dog world experience I have found it to be  exclusive and vicous! I understand KCzaja's position too! but the facts remain true ! The sv rules state that no untitled dog shall be bred! I am not sure about the usa! I used to think that politicians were the most money corrupt people alive but bog breeders run a close second! I have had experienced trainers tell me take it slow and build on that foundation you are a newbie not to worry she will be just fine and then overnight take your dog somewhere else ! As a purebred gsd owner and reflective of what I paid for her from a nationally recognized breeder it is my responsibility to protect the value of my dog! My responsibility to try to improve the breed and subscribe to the breeding standards! Why should an angry breeder call anyones employer if the employee were only stating the truth. If a breeder does not play by the rules they should not be allowed to play! A trainers responsibility is more important than mine!  Ok OK so I will get in trouble but  I love this breed and right now I fight a battle between those less than reputable  people in the gsd world who have stuffed my mouith with fresh poop pushing me to the edge of quitting and just having a house pet as a result of their actions. Now it is all about the money and screw the dogs! I apologize to all those truely dedicated owners and trainers and breeders! I say this if you want to stay in business you better clean up your business or see the gsd dissappear

Bob,
I learned a very good lesson years ago that I try to remember and apply in this life of decisions.  I learned to finally learn from my mistakes.  When I make a poor, uneducated mistake because I did not do my homework, listen to peoples experience or in some other folly of my own, I needed to accept it as a "good lesson in life".  I try not to look at the incredibly dumb, ill informed decisions that have come back to haunt me as something that is someone else's issue.  I cannot change them, but I sure can learn from the mistake.

This world is full of cons from CEO's to street people.  Your next door neighbor or your mechanic.  I cannot change them or this world.  This world always has had and always will have cons, people that will take advantage of you if they can.  Does anyone know an attorney.  (no offense to you attorneys, but you have earned your reputation)  It is the way it is.  It will not go away and it will not improve.  You cannot legislate morality and schemes will always be ahead of our best efforts to stop them.  We will always be playing catchup.  This thing with breeders is nothing new and is the least we have to worry about.  Buy a puppy mill puppy once, and hopefully you will make a better more well informed decision the next time.  Best lessons are the ones learned hard.

Point is, I do what I can within reason when I am ripped off.  I am a little more invested when someone I know is ripped off.  But to spend my life crying over poor choices I make is a lesson in futility.  Today I research, I read Consumer reports, I talk to people in the know, I wait until I am ready for a purchase (making hasty impulsive decisions never works to my advantage) and if it still does not work out I suck it up and make the best of it.  How many times have we all given sound heart felt advice to someone asking, only to see them go in the opposite direction?

I like to educate, encourage people to make good sound decisions, but I have found that most folks will go on and make the same stupid mistakes over and over again.  You can't help them.  Some learn and some do not.  I am not going to continue to waste my breath with those that refuse to listen and those that refuse to research and wait.  Life is tough and it is what it is.

Don't trust your own mother, even she could be jiving you.  That is what we learn as we get older.  Bob is right, we cannot stand idlly by while SOBs fuck with nice people, and the law can't always help.  But the law has a long arm.....  a real long arm

The people who represent the law (law enforcement) is more fed up with it than anyone, trust me.

A call for action, to stop those who have hurt and scammed people.  Grab your plungers, these pieces of shit need to GO DOWN.
