Two Moons

by Two Moons on 02 June 2009 - 18:06

Midnite has never been that keen on swimming but she'll get her belly wet.
I found that she will go in if I'm in the water, but she has to do it on her own terms in her own time.
Then right back to shore she goes..LOL

Moons, too funny! I guess that's Kalie, too...it has to be on her terms!

And Sunsilver, that's so sweet, your good boy would save his Mom even if it meant ...eww!...getting wet, really wet!

I wonder if Kalie saw the fronds of water plants wiggling with the current, & thought they were prey,-- or if she just saw her first real, 'au natural' body of water & couldn't resist? I wish I could know what she thinks, just once! The water was very clear, & cold, very refreshing looking. But it was moving so fast, I really was frightened, that she might not be up to that strong a current, on her very first swim. I needn't have worried, I suppose, but I'm still glad I had that 20' lead on her....and no wonder, the klutz just rolled off the bed next to me!!! This is why I worry, she can't even lay on the bed next to me without falling off! ROTFLMAO! jackie harris

The bitch in my sig picture was another one who had to make sure her loved ones weren't drowning. She once swam several hundred yards to our fishing boat to check up on us. I wasn't happy about hauling 65 lbs. of dripping wet GSD over the gunwale, and then being treated to a shower bath!

After 15 minutes or so, she decided everything was fine, and she jumped off the prow of the rowboat, and swam back to shore! As far as I know, that was the FIRST time she'd ever been swimming!!  The other thing that amazed me was that she chose the prow to jump off of, instead of the gunwale, which might have tipped the boat over.

Another time, we had her tied up on the beach while we did some snorkelling. She was making a terrible fuss. When I went in to get some sunscreen, Roger told me to bring her back out with me. She followed me wilingly, not hesitating for one second when she had to start swimming. She waited until Roger popped his head up from a dive, sniffed his face mask and gave him a lick to make sure he was okay, then let me take her back to shore.

She was happy after that: we didn't hear another peep out of her the whole time we were swimming!

Jackie, I had a cat that rolled off the bed, and got stuck between the bed and the wall! Not ALL cats land on their feet! LOL!

Sunsilver, that's too funny....I really think most animals have an innate sense about the stability of what they're on, like the dog leaping from the prow, most animals, that is....! I seem to have an ability to bring out the Klutz in almost any critter, & as I'm a klutz myself, we can manage to create some awful messes...... my little cat was not too graceful, I blamed it on the kink in her tail, LOL, but she never got stuck between the bed & the wall! She did drool in her sleep, tho', & liked to sleep with her chin propped up on my forehead.....yuck! More than once I was awokened by an eye full of cat drool! We always said, at work, that people with neuro problems drool more than others, my kitty was pts at 17 years old because of a brain tumor, & unrelenting seizure activity, wonder if that's why she was such a drooler? And maybe so discoordinated? Thankfully none of my dogs drool like that!

Today is my last day of freedom.....tomorrow my surgeon is supposed to clear me to return to work, Thursday will be my first day back.....sigh....I'm going to miss hanging out with my fur persons. And today Beckett has a swollen toe on his front foot....all the time I had off I could have cared for hurt dogs, but no, he picks today....the vet said give Benadryl...I don't think I see any cuts or puncture wounds, it's either a sting/bite, or a broken toe....they'll see him first thing tomorrow if it's still puffy. Dang it!  Ah, well, back to reality....jh

Hmmm...not sure Roger would have agreed with you the time Tasha used the gunwale of our canoe as a springboard, and dunked him in Lake Simcoe!  I was the first out of the canoe, so I was the only one who stayed dry!

She did learn from that experience, though. She never tried that again.

LOL, I did clarify that with 'Most animals', that is!....my goofballs would certainly not qualify! jh

This is sort of turning it around in that my GSD spoils me rather than shocks me and then other dogs go and shock me!

My little girl, while having no qualms what so ever about chasing our male off his food bowl and diving straight in, is very good about not touching the food in the cat bowls.  She will very delicately 'vacumn' the area around the kitty bowls so I know she likes cat food but she has never once stuck her nose in their bowls for a snack.

This always spoils me because when my parents bring their labs up, they are constantly eating up the cat food and I have to remember to pick the bowls up!

She sounds like a cutie! My girl was respectful of our kitty's space, food, etc., when she (the kitty) was still with us,& she waits patiently for the other dogs to eat, but my boy is a hog, he'll gobble down whatever he thinks he can get away with, then as he senses I'm observing him, he'll quick dive into a 'platz' & look away from whatever he was thieving, you can see the balloon over his head saying,"It wasn't me!" Sneaky Pete! jackie harris
