I shampoo my dogs only in the summer, and rarely. I use people shampoo, mildest kind a few times a year. I tie my dog to a tree and just use a garden hose. I take great care to not allow any water to enter the ears.
I hose my dogs frequently during exercises in the summer for cooling, but seldom use any shampoo. In the winter, I use a mixing valve for hot and cold water and just use the warm water to shower my dog outdoors during the warmest hours, about 50F at least, if every necessary.

I try to time my dogs' baths 2-3 days before they show in the ring so there's some oil coming back into their coats. Day of show I have some other preparations I use for last minute grooming, but the condition is really put in way before that in their supplements and food.

Many movies have a dog bathing comedy. PIcture this large hairy dog on a bathtub with shampoo, and then run loose in the house.
This is sort of alien and artifical to me. I never bathe my dog in a bathtub. I just tie it to a tree and shampoo it, then hose it to rinse off the shampoo very thoroughly. It is not running anywhere. I am in complete control; why is there any fuss in bathing a dog? An easy thing to do.

My daughter-in-law has a mobile dog grooming business and she bathes our dogs once in the winter. That's all we find necessary and I think our dogs are beautiful!!!

Pet Silk works great, and they have a tear fee version so cleaning their faces was pain free too. The conditioner workes equaly as well as the shampoo. My senior citizen Aussi's coat is soft and hasn't looks this nice in years.
