What is causing the problem is switching TO kibble, not away from it. The two foods don't go thru the system at the same rate, so her innards are confused and she'll will end up with gastroenteritis.

Yes, use real chicken, bone in.

I looked at the list of ingredients in those patties.  I couldn't find the ratio of muscle meat to bone to organ to veg, which is really important.  Plus those patties have a heck of a lot of unnecessary stuff in there, could be contributing to her stomach issues.  Feed whole RAW bones, your dog doesn't need all the extra junk.  Don't buy into the company hype of "complete and balanced meal" .  It's just not that hard to feed a dog, they just want YOU to think it is.  This is the same load of crap the big kibble manufacturers want people to believe too.  Nothing but pure bullshit.

Heres their list of ingredients:

GREDIENTS:  Chicken, Raw Ground Chicken Bone, Turkey, Turkey Liver, Turkey Heart, Apples, Carrots, Butternut Squash, Ground Flaxseed, Chicken Eggs, Broccoli, Lettuce, Spinach, Dried Kelp, Apple Cider Vinegar, Parsley, Honey, Salmon Oil, Olive Oil, Blueberries, Alfalfa Sprouts, Persimmons, Duck Eggs, Pheasant Eggs, Quail Eggs, Inulin, Rosemary, Sage, Clove.

I agree with Sue, < My gosh  that is enough rich stuff to choke a goat.    Waste of money , and  you are putting too much stuff , junk in the gut of the dog..
Commercial dog food doesnt have enough real chicken it to dust off your coffee table.

Go to raw  chicken or turkey or buffalo  or lamb or goat or deer   and yogurt, eggs, green beans and rice and raw calves liver... STAY ON ONE DIET PERIOD    AND SMALL AMOUNTS  TWO TIMES A DAY..

Pumpkin is fiber and will help balance with the yogurt.  Feed tiny portions twice a day as a treat..  Keep Immodium Ad on hand if need.  Make sure the bones are raw.   Make up baggies , freeze and feed same thing all the time..

Do not switch back and forth..Make sure meat is clean , fresh from a local butcher and yard eggs, (whole egg )are better that store bought ones.  Freeze meat in portion sizes,  defrost in fridge , serve when dog is hungry and throw away if it is over 30 minutes and still not eaten..

Had an insurance lady who let her dog bury his raw meat and go dig it up later.   Salmonela deluxe.

Save kibble in case of any emergency on the road, etc.   Read Dean Calderons site...he tells you why he keeps a bag of Kibble on hand.

Good morning,Could it be that your pup is either high fat intolorant,OR maybe getting too much food as a whole?Dont forget that the orijen is quite high in overall calories and this dog may be getting too much overall. As far as the natures varietyprepared raw,its soppost to be 95% meat with 5% veges.Personally,I have tried to get a phone number to that DAM company with NO luck so for me any company that cant even put a contact number does'nt deserve my business. Also, not every dog does well with raw so keep that in mind.Good luck with your dog.

Thanks All for your responses. I tried to give her the pattys last night and she refused to eat it so I gave her the kibble and she gobbled it down. I think she has negative views on the patty since she got sick off of it the night before.

Dominic in response to the Orijen being high in calories, I was told on my other post "amount to feed for orijen" that it is not that high compared to royal canin and I should up it so that is why she is getting about 1- 1 and 1/2 cup of orijen in the morning with the raw diet at night.

I understand the concern about kibble in the morning and raw at night so I am going to let her get better from this incident and then start her fresh again, this time with the real thing and not pattys.

Does anyone have suggestions on good books to read or recepies??

1.  nature's variety is  a pretty good raw diet, and it's a good start so you can have your dog on raw while you're trying to figure everything out.  when i started (2-3 years ago) i fed their organic chicken mix, not the regular chicken...i think it has less ingredients.

2.  dogs take approx 8 hours to digest raw (it varies, just an estimate) so if you fed the dog and she had the runs 2 hours later, that's the kibble from the meal before giving her the runs.  and if she has normal stools in the morning, that's the digested raw.

3.  if you are going to feed a commercial raw diet while you're learning about raw, get the mixes or grinds that are one protein source.  you can also use bravo, they have less ingredients than nature's variety and they're cheaper.  primal is also a really good one, they're a little on the pricey side, but the buffalo grind and the sardine grind is nice.

you won't need to use the commercial raw diets for a long time.  raw feeding is pretty easy to grasp, and once you learn what kind of meat to feed and where to get it, you'll be saving a lot of money.

My best advise, if you want to stay with the pre-made mixes/grinds, is make sure that whether it's Nature's Variety, Bravo, Primal, Oma's Pride or who ever, stick with their basics, the  single protein meat/bone/organ chubbs, not the so called "complete & balanced " diets.  Also I wouldn't go with any of the veg mixes.   If you really want to include veg, add your own.  I notice on the Primal site (for example) their Beef blend is 40% veg ........40% VEGETABLES!!!!????  That's just crazy.

So I have an update, I went to the vet and my baby has a bug in her tummy making her have diarrhea. So we are on antibiotics to make her feel better. I spoke with the vet and magically he is pro raw, if i am going to consistently give the dog the right nutrients to keep her diet balanced. I told him my suggestion about kibble breakfast and raw dinner and he said go for it, just wait for her to get better from this bug before starting her on raw, to make sure she is 100% healthy.

Back to my questions:
For the egg: hand the dog egg...lol I found that funny, I understand that you literally just give the dog the food and they should eat it. My question about the recipies are like how much to give her.

I feed my  85 male twice a day.  Mornings might be roughly 1/4 lb of organs along with a little beef heart or another quarter lb of tripe, plus salmon oil and vit E.  Evenings are whole bones, usually they weigh around a little over a pound to a pound and a half, but I don't weigh stuff anymore, I eyeball everything.
