I go by gut feeling. If it feels right to me (i.e. the training philosophy and methods) then I go and look at their results. I also want to have access to those individuals that were pleased with the trainer(s) and those that weren't. I have found that those "trainers" that are not afraid to get you in touch with the unsatisified people are actually better trainers because they are willing to learn from mistakes but also know you can't please everyone.

I would look at who the teachers are, and if they have the credentials you want. Or if they are so-so trainers just looking to make money. It is better to get an apprenticeship than to pay for an actual dog training school IMO, I would never pay for dog training school. You can take seminars, but your best bet is to get a job somewhere that will teach you for a long time.
