I am really hoping to here more from GSDZephyr
My questions:
What anti-fungal shampoo did you use?
How did you treat the bacterial infection?
How often are you using frontline now?

A hair dryer will help keep bacteria from growing. Keep their feet dry and as a preventitive I would use a anti fungal POWDER, not cream. Good luck, merry Christmas!

I've been through this with one of my GSDs as well. It initially presented in the Fall, especially seemed to worsen when the grass was damp/her feet got damp.
All I did was ensure that I kept her feet well dried after doing out. Initially, I rinsed between her toes with a damp hand towel (water only) and then dried well in case it was allergens from grass etc. I also did change her food during the course of this, as this type of problem is often also allergy related.
She's not had problems since, although I still always dry her feet well whenever we are done training/being outside if her feet have gotten wet/moist.
Has she been in to the vet for this? Often a fungal infection sets in when there is irritation and moisture present and/or a superimposed bacterial infection can also arise.

I had a female that began licking her feet non-stop after the passing of my male, I think she was just upset. Her feet got red and swollen and very painful for her to walk. We used Bactine Spray and did our best to keep her from licking them. It worked and never came back. I also read that food allergies can cause the feet to slightly swell and cause licking, it is easily noticed if they lick a short time after eating. Your dog sounds different as the feet are already wet from the environment but the result is the same as from the licking and getting the feet wet. Hope you can figure out a way to keep his feet dry, the booties sound like a hastle but might be the best bet until you get him totally over it....
