Have heard of it often, and in working dogs etc.. over here.. people I know say a clear out" dunno about that... personally only ever done it when my dog had a dodgey tum off food or the runs, which very often there ill but has happend. Better not to feed a foreign body..( bug) then help it so I let them go a day... till tum settles..)... I can't personally see it harming a dog at all starving them a day, as in the wild they do.... although we materialised them.. but one day or so... is no diff to us off food a day...

I do, when a dog is over weight, once a week whiel cutting back regular meal amounts. I feed my dogs first thing in the morning but don't on weekend training days. If my dog is fasting he wont get a meal at all that day and if not he eats after we get home from training.

I do fast my dogs, who are on a raw diet, usually at least once a week. It keeps them thinner, and on the top of their game. They are active healthy dogs. I often don't feed them the day before I plan to do a track, or just skip that meal beforehand. I see no negative effect to this. I'll often fast them if they're looking a bit overweight, too. They never go too long without food, unless we ran out of it. And if that lasts for more than a day, they'll get plenty of snacks.

I don't fast my dogs, unless one has the runs and then it's usually only one meal they miss. I do tracking before their breakfast but have not needed to skip a meal as motivation. I will feed light if a dog is overweight; that is, the dog gets half a meal instead of a full meal.
I know some folks think fasting once a week mimics the natural canine in the wild. Wolves and coyotes don't always eat everyday. To each his own.

I do not fast my dogs. I have done it in the past before training though. I will not feed my dogs before training or tracking though. I will feed them when I am done. They seem to be doing just fine this way. There are fed dinner about 8-10 hours before I train or track them. They track just fine and are not to hectic on the track. If they get alot of treats on the track then I just feed them a little less for breakfast.
Like some of you have said...to each their own. What ever works best.
