I have been feeding raw chicken for close to 5 years, I think March will be 5 years. I have never had a problem. I grind the chicken for peace of mind, its a hastle but is just what I do, so I don't even think about it much anymore. I buy stewers from the Hutterites. The chicken is free of hormones and antibiotics. I have made some awesome soups for us with it too, makes a good stock. We also buy their fryers, makes ya not want grocery store chicken. My dogs have been far healthier eating a primarily raw diet opposed to dog food. So IMO when your vet says to you "you wouldn't eat raw chicken, would you", I would say "no, but I wouldn't eat dog food either"!

love that question: How do you exactly feed raw chicken ?
I tell you if it was up to the dogs, they'd want the chicken running from them on the property and give chase like they do the rabbits out here! Chickens are not fair game though, they'd be dead in a split second. Rabbits are a challenge which is what dogs live for!
Mine get raw chicken too, bone and all. the darn place is far away from me, but from time to time i buy up frozen 40lb clumps of backs or necks, thaw m out slowly in the garage and grab (gloves recommended) the pieces of the thawing clump. Its interchanged with their all natural kibble.
I start pups pretty early at 4 weeks with chicken necks cut in small pieces, and boy should you see the spirit go up when they realize its raw meat! About half of my pup buyers end up putting their pups on the BARF diet so I want to prepare them for the raw food diets to come.

Baby eagle
is the death bone on the leg that real tiny sharp toothpick of a bone?

by BabyEagle4U on 07 December 2008 - 00:12
Ya, it has it's own joint .. the only other "thing" on the drum. You can dry that thing and sew with it.. from an older bird. Some are hidden really good. But all chickens have them. I don't like to kill young chickens ... but that's a whole other topic.

i will use raw chicken to supplement the "whole raw diet" that i feed, but i'm a chicken-sh*t (pun intended) so i chop any parts into teeny weeny pieces. the dogs love it and i don't stay up all night watching them for bones sticking out of their stomaches ( i get a little paranoid about it). i KNOW that raw bones are just about completely safe, but..... they still get the benefit and i spend more time in the kitchen than i want to (chopping chicken). gee, everybody's a winner.
babyeagle - 2 deer!!!! damn. after over 26 years with my husband, i can't get him to hunt deer! just birds, tho he says he'll go for wild boar one day. sure. just about all the good boar hunting grounds in california are housing tracts now. anyway, my dogs get venison, from their raw diet, i feed nature's variety, but I DON'T!!! i am bummed. hope you and your dogs enjoy the bounty! i am just envious. shame on me.

I like to feed Turkey over Chicken, less fat. My female lives on Turkey backs and necks(49 cents a pound) and fresh deer (I collect road kills) and fish.
