Shelley, if you sent your article to the USA office or the officers, then it's no wonder it got lost in the black hole of never-never-land.  Those guys aren't used to getting articles - they are supposed to come to the folks on the magazine committee, which is clearly not universally understood.  They probably assumed that we (the magazine posse) already had it or something and hit the "delete" button.

Regards to interviewing someone famous, how about Santa Claus?  I saw some cool pictures on the Internet last year of Santa doing helper work in the snow.  How cool is that!  I know it's real because I saw it on the Internet.
