So did I

Petpac nonsense is what is called a mirror site which was created by Judie Mancuso and her Animal Rights crew during the fight against AB1634. Vitriolic, mean spirited, libelous. She went after Bill and Petpac with a vengeance because Petpac was throwing a spanner in her carefully planned campaign. All I can say is Bill has a lot more tolerance than I ever would for the BS and abuse he suffered on our behalf while fighting AB1634.
Just a reminder folks. AKC showed up a day late and a dollar short. Refused to contribute to the TV ads against AB1634 and at the very end pulled its opposition in entirety. The local AKC show folks went off and created their own organization - CDOC. Split the money necessary to fight AB1634. Hired their own lobbyists with ONLY their interests at heart and negotiated daily with Levine to get their own special "exemptions". The founder said to me " I have my exemption so I don't have to worry"
We owe a super huge debt to Bill Hemby and Kelley Moran the folks behind Petpac because it was their knowledge and experience with the folks in Sacramento that finally defeated AB1634. Without them we would be living under AB1634. So as well as signing the petition take the time to send an email and thank them personally and perhaps put an entry on the Petpac blog what it means to you that we were able to defeat AB1634 and have someone watching out for insidious plans like dear old Arnold's. And finally I know times are tough but if we want to preserve Petpac we need to support it financially.

Please don't forget the Herculean efforts, including getting PetPac up and running, by Laura Sanborn. Laura devoted hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to the battle to defeat AB1634 and was a big part of the national mobilization against the bill.

TIG: I did not know AKC did that, I guess I was hoping that for once AKC would do the right thing, but I guess that would be too much to hope for.

Mystere, I did not mean to leave out Doug and Laura. I have always acknowledged their importance to the fight against AB1634 and encouraged people to thank them. I, myself, would not have entered the fray but for them. Thank you for the reminder. Their site <http://www.saveourdogs.net/s> is still a tremedous resource to folks fighting similar battles. Also Laura's work on pulling together the bibliography of research done on early spay and neuter that clearly shows there are are great dangers in it and the risks far out weigh any benefits is vital for ALL of us to be familiar with and we owe her great thanks for that also.
Sue, Unfortunately most people don't know. We made the decision NOT to make public some of the information because we understood the importance of appearing to have a united front ( tho AKC and CDOC certainly didn't get that piece of the picture). AKC missed several of the first vital committee meetings and was late in taking a stand. When they did finally show up they set their pattern of blowing into town the day before a big vote and running around "lobbying". Let me tell you as someone who spent the better part of 2007 up in Sacramento lobbying against this bill (as one of the few who could bring a dog with her which I felt was vital) that the day before a vote is the last time you want to be lobbying. A. It's too late to change any decision that has been made and B. For the most part nobody's home anyway.
The Petpac tv ads that were run and helpful in the first defeat of AB1634 were funded by THE CAT FANCIERS ( the technical creation). The people and their animals in the ads were all volunteers who joined us in our fight against AB1634 Including my friends Toni and Ed Eames who are guide dog users. I still love the one done with Dante the police K9- a great dog by the way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TROzWOqJBFU AKC was specifically asked to donate money not for the creation but for "running" time on TV. They refused.

this is important for californians! please pass the info to neighbors etc. i happened to be telling my sister about it at a craft show and a lady overheard me and she got the info and said she will sign and pass the info to her friends. if a republican governor can come up with this idea, it will certainly be looked at by other state admins. every state has budget problems now and they're trying to come up with money. please get the info to others.
