My personal opinion is that Pedigree is a poor quality dog food. I would definitely never recommend this product.

There are many other products avalable. I have used Arden Grange for years and am happy with the results.

If I fed kibble again.....  I would go back to Blue Buffalo, never pedigree. My sister has a Chow with skin issues, about a month ago she switched from Pedigree to BB on recommendation of the board here. She has seen a dramatic difference since! No itching, no more hot spots, less stool, and she feeds less food!

Not knocking your profession, but explain why this is such a good food if I have heard MANY of the same stories?

Wasn't Pedigree just being recalled for salmonella or something? Weren't they on the original recall list?

"And the most importantly the prices are great... especially useful if your a breeder with a lot of dogs"

ummmmmm NO my dogs health and well being comes before a £ sign thank you .....

Meat and animal derivatives ..............................................................    what species

(minimum meat claimed 4%, minimum 4% fresh meat)..................not much the LMAO

Cereals Derivatives of Vegetable Origin............................................ now that's specific....NOT

Vegetable Protein Extracts....................................................................cheap alternative to meat

 Oils and fats...............................................................................................non specific

 Minerals ......................................................................................................non specific again

Contains EEC permitted colourants and preservatives ..................you can bet your bottom dollar its got them

Analysis: Protein 8.0 % Oil 5.5 % Ash 2.0 % Fibre 0.8 % Moisture 79.0 %

I sent an email to pedigree a few years ago stating my concerns and asking for a FULL ingredients list

I got a brief and rude e-mail back saying that if I was that concerned "change to a different food" (I have never fed pedigree to any animal.)  they also told me that they were not obliged to provide me with that information!!!!!

So yes PEDIGREE CHUM IS UTTER CRAP

so please don't recommend it to people. and do some research!!!

any way pedigree works out more expensive than most 5 star foods BURNS is about 80p-£1 per day

on a nice note WELCOME TO THE BOARD....(getting of my soapbox now)

My oldie came to me as a puppy on Pedigree Kibble and as he did very well on it I kept him on it for many years.  I know other people that have also had alot of success on it.  My vet even advised me to transfer one of my other dogs to it after she wasnt doing so well.

I would not feed P Chum and if I had to feed a wet food then it would be nature diet all the way.

I currently combine Canin with Barf - so that the canin can take over when we are away especially for camping.

Different dogs do well on different things - much like humans.  I had a bitch who couldnt tolerate BARF and mine stink on Arden grange so its different strokes for different folks.

On the same vein I have a husband who eat appallingly all day and doesnt even make bantum weight when others I know spent every day of the year on a diet only to still be obese!

I appreciate all your comments but Pedigree is simply the best.

And Tigermouse; thanks for listing what you think a good ingredients list is but you listed chicken fat as the fourth ingredient!

That causes bloat you ignoramus.

In response to somebody stating that some dog food companies give out free samples I will go one better and give out free samples lasting three months. So that way you can see the difference this great food makes.

And to those who sent me Pm's regarding purchasing some Pedigree Dog Food, please send me your address and the quantity and I will let you know the price(Free Shipping)

suspected causes of bloat (no one knows the actual reasons)

  Stress
bullet Dog shows, mating, whelping, boarding, change in routine, new dog in household, etc.
Although purely anecdotal, we've heard of too many cases where a dog bloated after a 3rd dog was brought into the household (perhaps due to stress regarding pack order).
bullet Activities that result in gulping air
bullet Eating habits, especially...

Tigermouse, I was looking over some of your posts and saw you feed Orijen....nuff said really

by Langhaar on 11 November 2008 - 16:11

YEs Orijen is a superb food, totally grain free as of course dogs were not bred to process grains or cereals (lacking the ability to light fires, make saucepans and cook)!

As for chicken fat causing bloat, I think you need to do some basic research on a) chicken fat and b) bloat.
