Bob-O

Well, the cop had time to draw and aim at a small animal that was a moving dog. He is a decent marksman, but I think he had time to get into his car. His life was not in danger, so there are no excuses for what happened here.

Driving onto private property to ask directions? Dumb, but perhaps the truth. Dumb from the standpoint that a cop should never do that-especially on my property. He might never know that the target sight of a rifle was fixed firmly on his forehead until he made his intention known. I never take chances.

I will take a moment to mention a case settled in Tennessee several months ago where a small town cop shot a family pet after a traffic stop due to a mistaken identity issue. I certainly understand the initial reason for the traffic stop-no fault there. I do not understand why a non-threatening family pet was shot; save for sadistic pleasure.. You can read about this here: http://www.zootoo.com/petnews/familyswins9kfordogshotbypolic In that case, just as in this one the shooting was captured by videotape. Otherwise, there is no doubt the police would have been absolved of any and all wrongdoing.

Don't take me as a cop hater-even though I spent more than half of my life dealing with pigs (yes I said it) who have a penchant for hassling motorbike riders of a particular stripe. Know that I maintained the upper hand during every episode as I did nothing wrong, had done nothing wrong, and was not planning to do anything wrong. I realized that in each and every occurrence that I fit a certain "Hollywood profile" or a "criminal profile" in the most recent law enforcement communique concerning "outlaw" bikeriders and I had the audience of a cop who wanted the reputation for taking a real badass (now I'm laughing!) off the street.

There are sane and trustworthy men and women behind the badge-one must determine who they are. I know some-but a few. I think the homeowner will win this case-especially since it is in a rural area and the incident is captured on videotape. Small town police department and sherriff's departments do need to pay attention and correct behaviours such as this, as it gives all police personnel a bad name and digs deeply into their financial pockets.

Regards,

Bob-O

That is just a shame!  My mother-in-law lives about 30 minutes from Blanchard and this is TYPICAL small town bullshit!  I also live in a small town that is know to harras it's citizens all in the name of the law!  Small towns are a joke!  Blanchard isn't so big that he needed dirrections!  Hell, the probability that he grew up in the area is EXTREMELY likely!  And these guys gotta feed their egos!  Small town cops and deputies in Oklahoma probably ONLY required to have a high school deploma and a valid drivers license and make about $8.00 an hour!

I know a guy that worked in the town of Beggs Oklahoma and he made $700 every 2 weeks and that included 4 hours of overtime!

Very good point Vickie.......

As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Officers, Firefighters and teachers to name a few are seldom paid what they deserve for the services they provide.  A shame that we pay athelets so much money  don't don't put value in the people who protect, serve and educate us on a daily basis. :o(    I think some of the attitudes and issues seen from officers is a direct reflection of their poor pay, general disresptect in many communitites and daily hazzles dealing with John Q public.

This is not an excuse for this officers actions, he had many options as previously mentioned including his his pepper spray & Asp batton.  Some people are afraid of dogs, this man may have over reacted due to his own fears.  Hell I've seen grown men about kill themselves to get away from spiders, roaches and/or snakes (even dead ones)!

Teri,

First, this guy CHOSE his profession!  Not necessarily for the money but also because if feeds his EGO!  Second, he is a "hometown boy."  I am most certain he has wrangled a few head of cattle as Blanchard is in the middle of the ranching and wheat plains in Oklahoma.  These guys are rarely affraid of anything!  His body language translated to me a show of his OVER INFALTED EGO, asshole probably beats his wife too!  You would be dumbfounded by the statistics of how many LE's beat, berate, and abuse their wives!

Yes, the cop had plenty of time to go back into his car.

What a dastardly act.

by hodie on 25 October 2008 - 03:10

This person should be fired and charged with a crime. There was no reason for this shooting given his options. What a f---- coward.
