BTW- Neither dog was ever bred and both were Spayed/Neutered by 2 yrs.

we had one bitch who lived just shy of 14 yrs. we lost one at age 8, but the majority of them have gone about age 12. not nearly long enough as far as we are concerned. we wish they lived as long as people.

My first GSD, Shadow, lived to be 13 1/2. My second Phanny, lived to be 11 1/2 due to an osteo sarcoma that appeared very suddenly. She really had a few years left in her.

I had a boy lived until 11 and a girl until 10. They were both in tact and never bred. I had an in tact Elkhound male, never bred lived fifteen years and two months.
I have at the moment a 4 year old in tact female never bred and a 14 month in tact male.

My oldest GSD, Tanya, lived to almost 14 (American backyard bred ). Next follows pretty good German/Belgian/Czech working lines: Tessa 12 from DM, Nim 8 from bloat, Keala 8 from liver cancer, Utz 8 from DM, Cezar 9 from bone cancer. I'm envious of all those that had their dogs for 12 years.... 8 or 9 is just way too young.

My oldest German Shepherd was shot by an ass hole at the age of fourteen, he had many more year's ahead of him, healthy active and strong.
