The first was that he was allergic to flea bites. That was important because he was on flea control medication, but it was a variety that killed them AFTER they bit. Changing that to a type that effectively locked their jaws on contact so they couldn't bite him improved that situation dramatically.
The other issue turned out to be an allergy to chicken. A LOT of commercial dog food uses chicken, but certainly not all. We moved him to a primarily lamb formula with dramatic improvement. Between the food and the flea medication changes, his issues went away.
The lesson I learned was that it isn't necessarily just one issue, it could be multiple. I'm sure that a doggie dermatologist has the knowledge and tools to determine the specific issue(s) with your dog. Keep the faith, sometimes it takes a bit to find the right solution.

Not correcting you to be an ass, I just don't want an inexperienced person to not receive 100% correct information.

Good Evening, I wanted to update you on Rangers progress. She is doing much better. Still scratching as the yeast is still working its way out. We are in week 7 of the yeast treatment. I called and spoke with someone at 1st Natual and just confirmed that we were on the right track and progressing as expected. I think it will take another 6 weeks at least before we are through this. She really had/has a bad case of the yeast. We realize now that she is smaller than she should be. I am not sure if that is because her thyroid was damaged with the antibiotics and steroids in that 6-12 month period of her life or what. Her parents were big dogs. Thank you again for helping me get on the right track with her treatment. Just for the record our yard has not been treated for anything since before she was born. I give her Trifexis for heart worms and fleas, etc. I have never used a flea collar at all on her. Happy Fall Ya'll!!!!
