Duke, some people complain because the gsd is loosing it's character because people are soft, and then complain about strong character. Good job, keep producing real gsd. ;-)

I really am curious, though, as to who or what the pup is snarling about...reminds me of that picture of Hallix' first Eisenherz puppy, Cierny, when one of her littermates ticked her off during play.  She looked like a little werewolf in the shot, and it's one of my favorite 'puppies in action' pictures.

A "GOOD" German Shepherd isn't for everyone...Nor is a "GOOD" Working line Dog...

I too wonder what the puppy is snarling at...But I am all for having a good...strong...dog (German Shepherd)...I think so much of the tough...working ability has been bred out...and it's up to the few good breeders to keep the "working ability" intact...

I hear so many people wanting to breed for "Pets"...Well...Every litter doesn't produce "Great" working dogs...and YES...there are some very good dogs in each litter that make perfect "Pets" for people who don't want...need...or can handle a tough...hard working Dog...

When I breed...I breed with the goal to produce a TOP...Hard Working dog...but at the same time there are plenty of puppies that don't make it to that level...and make someone very happy with a great dog...Will make a great dog for someone's home and family...So when I hear of people breeding to produce "Pets" I just cringe...and say..."What the hell are you thinking"...

That makes perfect sense...A breeder or someone observing a litter or even puppies or dogs will watch everything they do and come to a conclusion...This includes and has a lot to do with how puppies interact with their litter-mates...Puppies learn what works and doesn't work from within the litter situation...This is also the reason the Mother Dog is so important to how the puppies mature...

This is also a good reason why Good puppies are reared by Good Breeders/Owners...Once the Mother Dog is out of the equation someone has to take over to continure the puppy's raising...

This is a very good post that teaches people how good dogs are reared and what they do...

Duke stop being defensive. I like the pup and  I did not say that there is anything wrong with the pup. I said: "be carefully  what you wish for". That does not necessarily apply to you since you are experienced dog man. I was mainly referring to the notion that it is "cute".  Yes it is "cute", but there is more to the dog and pup then being cute. Some people who shouldn't,  would  select the pup because it is "cute". As for the inane  comment on GS  ,"loosing it's character because people are soft, and then complain about strong character." This is exactly the reason why this is happening . Some people select tough pup for themselves because it is cute and then they do not train it properly   and get themselves into trouble with such dog. I am called to such situations all the time and it is a sad to see disappointment of people who misjudged a dog of any breed . So forgive me if I see world through such filter/ such perspective.   Only an silly person  can say that I am against strong  GS dogs.  I will simplify:  I am against strong dogs being misjudged and selected because they are cute by some who are unable to handle such dog,... . I hope this helps. :)

I did not want to rain on parade. I am sorry if I did.

And yes the pup is cute something fierce.

It's up to the breeder to select the correct pup for inexperienced person...not to allow a pup to be selected by the inexperienced based on being cute...all puppies are cute, but are not all of equal suitability for inexperienced persons. "Inane".....humph. The comment you lable "inane" is taken out of context, as usual. I trust the rest of the readers here can comprehend what I post, as they don't continually shred each post I make to create that which l did not intend.
