Thanks for the link, Dawulf. I see some very excellent GSD's both ASL's and GSL's.

USA: Protect Puppies; Tell the USDA to Enforce Puppy Import Law! | |
ASPCA Position: Support enforcement
Action Needed: None at this time.
Update—August 18, 2014: Great news, advocates! The USDA finalized the federal puppy importation rule. With this new rule, the USDA has taken significant steps towards ensuring the United States is not importing sick puppies and supporting animal cruelty in puppy mills overseas. Instead, the new law will now require non-U.S. breeders to provide certification that each dog is in good health, has received all necessary vaccinations and is at least six months of age. Thank you for all your hard work on this important issue. You spoke up and the USDA listened!
Every year, weeks-old puppies are imported to the United States as cargo from Eastern Europe and Asia. During their journeys, these vulnerable puppies can suffer from exposure to extreme temperatures, cramped shipping conditions and long stretches without food, water or care.Because the U.S. has no control over the conditions in which these puppies and their parents were bred and no influence over the travel conditions the puppies endure, many of them may arrive in the U.S. sick, dying or dead. In 2008, Congress amended the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit the importation of dogs into the U.S. unless they are at least six months of age, in good health and fully vaccinated.

@sitasmom: you are perpetuating an incomplete and deliberately misleading press release. consider the source.
from aphis site:
This final rule applies to dogs intended for resale. It does not apply to dogs that are imported for research purposes, veterinary medical treatment, or for personal companions.

I recently purchased a Funkenspiel puppy from Asintay Kennels in Alberta. Also, Sandy Anderson with Woodside Kennels has a Funkenspiel stud dog who has sired a few females who she may be breeding in the next year.

One thing that absolutely WON'T fly in the AKC show ring is a roached back. So, choose your puppy/future show dog accordingly! Of course, good movement is needed, too...
I've noticed Nino von Tronje seems to produce a fair number of offspring with fairly straight toplines.
And the other night, I was browsing the ads, and came across this beautiful German female, with quite an impressive pedigree:

$4,000 might be a bit more than what you're willing to pay, though...

I know that Sandy from Woodside has put her funkenspiel dog up for sale because he was posted on here. Not sure if he sold or not.

If you contact the Tanks, Victory GSD's, I feel sure they can advise you on the best breeder for the dog you are looking for. Eisenwerk may not be breeding anymore, they will know for sure. They have both ASL's and GSL's and are very nice people who will try to help you. You have a good start since you know that a roach would be the kiss of death in the AKC ring, but there are other points you also need to be aware of such as head type. You don't want a dog with a lot of stop of a domed skull either and no dead tails. You need to talk to those who have been there done that....the Tanks have walked that walk.
