I am pretty sure Jenni78 has always felt his daddy could be pit. In case she reads this, she might be able to describe pit traits that pertain to feeding styles and if pits have any herding style at all!
The invisible fence guy swears his daddy is a rottie! It would also be interesting to compare rottie traits as identifiers, too.
Always, I must remember his litter was living under a trailer in TX when confiscated as a matter of probability and logistics. His mom was an emaciated GSD, that I do know as I have seen her, myself.
Beau also uses both sight to give chase and air scenting, too. He just loves to hunt.
@LF He can take you out with a body check, like Northern Maiden described. Watch out for his size, is right. I do not have total confidence in DNA testing accuracy for possible breeds that are not so popular. 😯

That photo of Smoke makes me think that there is some sort of sled dog in his heritage. I wonder if his mother bred with more than one male or if the male was a mix himself?
I haven't been around to many Rotties in my life, but I know a woman with a Rottie mix that does look very similar to Beau and is an admirable farm dog.
