I don't breed. I don't think I have it in me. I know good dogs, I'd like to mabye some day, but at this point i'm very happy just training and testing them. It would be cool to be a part of something bigger, but I don't know that I could even sell a puppy. If I didn't know you, and know you well, before the litter was born, you probably wouldn't get a puppy from me. And I have a real problem charging friends, so screw royalties, they dog would be free to begin with. I guess it's how I've been treated and it I think it works well. Everyone I've gotten a dog from has known me on a personal level outside of the acquisition of a dog or puppy. I can't imagine I'd do it much differently if I was in a position to breed dogs.
There wouldn't be a financial disclosure, credit check, rental history, ownership records, vet calls or any of that. If I can't get to know you better than that on my own, well my screening process sucks anyway :)

I've only re-homed one litter of puppies - for a friend whose Schnauzer mix got loose and pregnant by who knows who? Seven mixed pups. Most (5) I was able to find homes with friends, or friends-of-friends, a couple I found online, which is where it got fun. I started looking for homes for them at 4 weeks (and no, they didn't go home until 8), and I had people e-mailing me, saying that they wanted a pup as soon as possible, so that it could bond with them and their other dogs... they also wanted a female FOR BREEDING. (I had to read that e-mail a couple of times, couldn't believe it) Um, no. PASS. I also had one person message me that wanted 2 females... they lived in a house of 7 adults and 5 very young children... didn't think they would probably be a good match either, as the lady came across as a bit crazy anyways. Another sounded really good, and came out to meet the pups, was very nice and gung-ho to bring one home... next day called and said she didn't want it anymore. There were a couple of good ones though, one was a student in veteranary school. She sent me very lengthy e-mails describing her life, living situations, why she wanted a dog, how it would be cared for, etc. etc. Came out, met the pups, fell in love with one scruffy little guy, brought him a collar and a blanket, and took him home 4 weeks later. Match made in heaven. :) So yeah, in the end it all worked out. It helped that I had friends who took most of them, who I knew would be REALLY good homes for them. But those other two.... wow what a process. I don't think I could make it as a breeder.

bee tree I would like to see one vet who would say that their customer is bad pet owner. Are kiddidng? Have you heard of law suits? And what about the people who never had dogs or tell you that they never had one. This is a one of the worst idea I have ever heard.

Nans you gave a barage of ways and I fail to see one which would stop anyone selecting a buyer who will not abuse their dog, or dump it or mistreat it. Not a one. All that is wishfull thinking.

Reggie yes you can make dog fit . I do it all the time. But that worksonly with the good dog people But how do wead out the bad dog people . Based on what? What they tell you? Right! What will the potentila bad owners tell you. Some lofty BS stuff. Do you actually think that they will tell you, I will chain up the dog behind the house and beat it with a stick when i get drunk every day and let his collar grow in? No . So now what? So far all I hear is here is just bunch od bumperstickers.

OK "big breeders always bad - small breeders always good" - another bumber sticker.

so why do you even ask if you think every thing anyone has to say is mere dribble? You think you are all wise and all knowing. So why even ask if you feel you then have to ridicule? even if you were so much smarter then every one here and it was up to you to teach the masses. You think to ridicule and to put down is the way? And you call others trolls? All I can say is there are so many here with so much more knowledge and experience then you. But you would never know that because you never shut your trap long enough to really listen. I am done commenting and responding to you. I have better things to do with my time then to waste it in a discussion with someone of your intellect level.

Dawulf is so far the only one who makes little sense and is truthful and not full of bumper stickers. But that post is really not about screaning buyers of pure bred dogs. :)

Prager,
What can anyone say except that your comprehension and insight, suck.
I am in total agreement with Reggie's last post. You do seem to have a rather large bug up your bumper.

Ah Regie got angry with me . Listen I am making a point here.The point is that you can blame breeders that they should screen better the prospective buyers, but I am still waiting for anyone tell me one way how and not general bumper sticker crap. Realistically i tell you that selling pups is the beast and at the same time the hardest thing for me. And only reason I do it is because I like to see the good dog people get good dogs. It makes me happy. It is my life. But I know that no matter what I do and no matter how many questions I ask you can almost never find all true bastards. THAT IS MY POINT. And to blame the breeders that they failed to find out who is the bastard is only going to make you feel good but reality is that it is hardly possible. To call neighbors or call their vets or do credit check or see if they are rentals or house owners oR call their clubs and on and on. I'll tell you some of the best dog owners I have seen were homeless people. Of course not all jus some. And healthy or disabled vets who did not have 2 cents to rub together are usually great dog people. If you think I am ridiculing you that is your problem. I am just sick and tired of people spewing PC crap and pointing finger without ever having solution.
NANS SUMMED it up pretty good :
The nicest people can turn into the bastards from hell;
I have fired many potential buyers. But will it stop abuse by people who push all the right buttons can communicate and so on. NO. It will not!! . And since you asked, here is my answer = that is my point.
And no Reggie, I will not shut up. You shut up! ( Just kidding) LOL!!!
