Bob kennel blindness is a problem indeed . But if the dog is coming from generations of sound working dogs and they them selves have good hips and elbows are sociable and agile and long lived what else is there? Breeder needs to be honest with his dogs. And it is harder if you are small breeder. Big breeder with mare dogs have the luxury not to be kennel blind.

bzsc:
Obviously you have not been around to many S&R trainings. These dogs have to be strong, have good drives, stamina, focus, physical agility, strong nerves. real character. Just 1 example
SG KKL 1 LIFE Bodo Vom Drachenhaus
BH, AD, IPO 3, IPWDA ADVANCED CADAVER DOG, CGC,
Kkl 1 Sorry about the capitol letters i could not figure out how to reduce them.
Prager:
I never want to be known as a "Breeder" I breed when I need a new dog or if i have good prospects waiting in the wings for the litter. There are 2 many "Breeders" out there already.

But only one skill, Scent. They have to demonstrate more skills to be breedworthy. No different that a UDX dog. He's a great obedience dog but it's not enough.
Don't know why I have to keep saying that. You picked GSD's. You obviously did so because of their working temperment. You know what the FCI breed standard is. Either live with it and follow it or choose to ignore it,
Just don't justify your ignorance with excuses. Admit its too much work to title all of the dogs or you don't want to or__________________ fill in the blank.
YOU chose a WORKING GSD which is predicated on the FCI breed standards. Nobody forced you to pick them just as nobody is forcing you to follow the standard. But you are NEVER going to convince the majority of GSD owners that the whole system is a sham, it doesn't work, blah blah blah.
It produced your foundation dogs and you are reaping the benefits of someone else doing the work so that the next generation can.
Show me your third generation dogs from your kennel and tell me what percentage of them are even capable of being titled. Then, I live close, we'll go down and test the grips and nerves and lets see how they hold up.
Care to take bets on how well they do?

I am unable to see a connection with big breeders not being kennel blind as opposed to small breeders. Ever hear '' can not see the forest because of the trees''? Emotion, stupidity, and fiances cause kennel blindness

One world one people, Lets make Iraq the center of the world and live by the standard. One German Shepherd ala caca. 40 Years from now everyone will be using their google thought processing system and thinking the same arguments over and over on to the pdb. Macro, micro. One world, does not work for the world, will never work for GSD either. Pull the bandage scream and cry, pout, better the breed.
Show gets pagents, sport keeps sport, working keeps separated....
Heres a link to the genetic article someone reposted on their blog, that was talked about earlier.

We investigated the genetic differences of 62 Finnish German Shepherds from three different breeding lines.

It,s all genetic abality to work! It,s not just a nose doing the work! It,s the dog, you don,t think a S&R dog has a working temperment!!!! Obviously your depth of "work" is running 6 blinds barking chasing and barking some more! Thats the only thing that explains it.
It,s not the same test that is done today thats the quintessential point here that you can,t seem to fathom!. Your idea of tougher standards is off leash heeling!!!!! You might want to remember that when the 4 th attempt at the IPO1 comes around!
You can test my dogs any time you like better men then you have!.

but all it means to me as somebody has done some work. the only way I know I get dogs I personally want this by goin to work the damn dogs and only working with people that work their own dogs. and are honest about everything we see in front of them

I agree just like the IPO 1 isn,t a breed test of any real caliber. There are just as many dogs that stand on the podium that I cringe to see in a pedigree. Show me the dog and i,ll read about him latter.

Bob, FWIW to you from a showline person, I think you would be a person I would buy a dog from.

Pfffft,
My Raudi son was a tracking phenom. ALL day any day.
How are their grips? How's their ability to withstand the stress of a drive?
You whine about helperwork in IPO and yet you duck your dogs COMPLETELY out of it and try and convince us all that they are the real deal?
Even the HGH dogs have to do protection.
It's laughable that a dog who never gets called on a mission is called a working dog. They are never tested.
At least my daughter is out there going at it. That earns my respect and admiration every day. She doesn't just quit like you do and say scent work is enough.
