Hi Linda, Do feel for you, but having read what you have put above, sounds like you have one trouble-maker among a whole bunch of contented neighbourly people - Anne Harpwood, J.F.D. .......... she`s your answer, will support and help in every way. You may have just this one person that is "anti-dog" like Heathers nuisance, and it just takes one for a responsible person as yourself, to cause you real misery, and why should you let her/him. You need the support of JFD to give this one person a bit of a letter in the only way that Anne writes them !!! shooting straight from the hip !!! Hope you get it sorted Linda, thinking of you Mo

It's funny how someone else's dog, kids, motorcycle, car or music is always to loud and a nuisance, but OUR dogs, kids, car and music is not. Humans are just funny. I have 8 dogs and when they bark, there is a reason and I am glad they are letting me know something is different (like a aquirrel is in the yard :). Of course I don't live in a heavily populated area but I do have neighbors on both sides about a football field away. The one neighbors Shelty makes more noise than all of mine put together. The other neighbor raises Shih-tzu's and man do they bark a lot. The only sure way to not upset your neighbors with your barking dogs is to not have neighbors. Humans talk way too much but they don't like it when dogs talk

Linda B, I have the same problem, no complaints yet, but live in residential area and have 3 very drivey males, one that barks when he hears or see's anyone, one who barks at the sprinklers and the younger one barks whenever he thinks the other dogs are getting food, or kids playing LOL. I do put them in crates in the house at night. One thing you can do. The other as mentioned above by neuen-polizei is the citronella bark collars, excellent choice. I have had several people tell me they work great, especially one person who's dog would bark past the shock of an electric collar. She used the citronela bark collar and it worked great.

Neuen-polizel, where can one find the citronella bark collar?

by neuen-polizei on 05 August 2006 - 08:08

prok9s, PetSmart is one place you can find them. You can also do an internet search, many websites offer them. www.petsmart.com has them listed for $90. Jeff

hi linda Know what you are going through and it is very unplesant.all ours (6) are very Quiet for 95% of the time untill its walk time, and as soon as the first lead comes out they all want to go out and kick off.By the time we are at the end of the street all is quiet till we go back for the next lot. This is repeated till they have all been done, but takes the enjoyment out of it,just because some arseholes cant live and let live.If the dogs barked morning noon and night then fair enought.if we go out we now put the more vocal ones in the kitchen, this helps as it prevents starting the others off. Good luck and hope it works out for you

Hiya Linda We have had 1 complaint so far but they have now moved out, we now have a new neighbour who seems fine but you just never know, we are in the process of looking for a new house with no neighbours (not an easy task) we see one we think is fine, drive to it and it is surrounded by houses (which the paper makes you think is by itself) i agree it is very stressful i know what you are going through. Like IC Hall says our dogs are quiete 95% of the time, it is just walk times, i even now put some in the house until they have all been out then put them in the kennels. At night they never make a sound until i go in in the morning to let them out, then just a couple of excited yaps then silence. Best of luck Linda hope it works out for you.

You can buy a citronella collar from thepamperedpetmart.com for $47.20. They are great company to work with, have very quickly and without question replaced one I bought at NC when it falied after over a year of use. All I had to do was return the broken one and, since they could not repair it, it was replaced. Just be sure to order extra refills and batteries. The batteries are very hard to find and Petco really rips you for the refills. These collars work for some dogs, not all. They might not be as effective in a kennel environment, some dogs just bark through the correction to be able to join in with the rest of the pack. I think they work best if you have only one dog or if you have identified a "trouble maker" that gets the rest going. Maybe you could find one to borrow to see if it's going to work for you? Good luck with the problem. I know it's hard for us dog lovers to understand when neighobrs complain about our beloved dogs, but not everyone is as nuts as we are over dogs. The less they have to complain about, the better off we are.

I have a citronella collar which I did try on our noisiest GSD she just barked untill it was empty time and time again then I tried a shock collar but still she would bark she is now staying at a friends (with no neighbours) until a suitable home can be found for her. I did have her in the house and she was fairly quiet while you where with her but would start to bark whenever she got excited and this would set the other dogs off.The noisiest dog we own is a small Jack Russell cross that we rescued he lives in the house and there are times when i feel like choking him because he is such a yap but as the person complaining lives more than a football field away there is no way he would be able to hear him yapping from inside our house. our dogs do make a noise when we are taking them out but this is just excitment and only lasts for a couple of minutes untill they are in the field then they are to busy chasing each other and the swollows. We are going to have the house valued and start looking for a place with no neighbours although we know this will be difficult. In the meantime the farmer has offered to stack some straw bails along the back of our house as this may help reduce the noise and we are looking at enclosing our dog runs. Thanks again to everyone for your comments and advice they are very much appreciated
