Description
We have owned Icelandic sheepdogs since 1989 and bred our first litter in 1991. We breed for genetic diversity and our dogs can be found all over the world even though we are only a small hobby breeder. Raising family dogs that have important bloodlines and all the breed characteristics. Very few of our dogs actually live in Iceland.
We are particial to the old true type ISD. We do not focus on show fashion although most show dogs in Iceland today can trace back to a long haired dog from our first litter Töfra Stjarna. We do not show often anymore so you will not see our dogs represented at many shows and our own dogs don't have titles (except our oldest one at the moment). However you may have heard of our kennel because one of our dogs, AKC GCH, INT/NAT CH Töfra Kelikátur TDI, CGC living in USA (who btw doesn't show often, he is a lovely working farm dog and therapy dog) was the first Icelandic sheepdog in history to place in group in AKC and his son was the first ISD Best in Show at an AKC show and continues to do well.
The shorthaired type is important to us even though it's mostly the long haired that are seen. We think the short hair needs to be preserved and our main focus when we started was to breed well structured short hair dogs although we also breed longhaired (lubbar). Mostly we try to use short and long together to give diversity. It is getting increasingly more difficult to find good short hair dogs today and so we have had to use more long haired dogs than we would have liked to during the past decade. We try to keep colour diversity in our dogs as well, whenever possible opting for the deep rich red and black tri but are deliberately avoiding the brown pigment gene as it is way too widespread in the gene pool which the next few years will reveal.
One of our main goals is and has always been to keep the breed characteristic strong double dewclaws.
