so do them coon hounds kill/catch them or just tree them, what if dogs get them on the ground - is like modern fox-hunt = no kill, do people eat the coon or just make old time hats?

Sometimes in training a young dog is allowed to kill the Raccoon, or at least fight with it, there is a season for running only, and one for taking , (killing) the Raccoon.
They are shot out of the tree with a small caliber rifle, .22 shorts are preferred for safety.
Raccoons almost always tree, it would be rare for the dogs to catch one on the ground, possibly in a hollow stump.
Raccoon can be eaten, the pelts are sold for cash.
LOL...hats.
Fox hunt?
You mean like hounds and horses.
We trap them and you can shoot them in season.

One may also Trap Raccoons, something I left out, that doesn't require dogs.
Horses and hounds is about the horse not the hunt.

A good hound or hounds, can kill a coon. Some coon hunters use hounds that won't kill a coon, but much like Coyote hunters use greyhound for the chase, they use hounds for the chase, and then a Kill Dog for the finish. In the water, a coon will drown a dog. In the 70's coon hunting was very popular in Pueblo, Colorado, down at the Arkansas, River. When I moved to Southeast Colorado, there were even Mountain Lion at the Arkansas River, which was about a half mile from my home. Here's a wicked little Dispatch Dog.

Your becoming predictable Erin......:)
The fur trade has gone steadily down hill over the last twenty years.
I'm sure it's just me but I like fur, I like leather, but it goes without saying I like a bare runway when landing and taking off.

Aren't you afraid you'll lose your way, or fall into a bottomless pit from which there would be no escape?
A man can get lost in the jungle and never be seen again.
Not to mention all the critters that could be hiding in the underbrush.
