There is no limit because that would limit hits and that would limit revenue.  After all that is what it's all about.  Obviously, reading some of the posts on the PDB content and accuracy is not important.

Not sure I get this? You want me to lock/archive/stop people from posting on topics that disturb you? When we have good reason to lock a thread, we are condemned.

We separated the sections, so if you did not want to have to look at the off topics you simply could not click on that link. Now you want me to tell a member that their thread should be locked? Who has the say when a thread gets to long? Do you want us to put a limit on the amount of pages or on the person? And why does it matter, just don't read it. Ignore it.

There are always going to be members who for whatever reason need to post the same material 50 times, because the more it is repeated the truer it becomes to them. The more validated they feel.

I am going to suggest to Oli once a thread gets X number of posts long that the numbers start going by 10's or 20's depending on length of the thread.

I see people who would complain if they felt some ones right to speak was being denied, but the same people are here asking us to do just that. I really don't get it. We have well over 200 or more dog forums and 1 off topic forum. I dare anyone to find off topic posts in the dog forums in the last 4 months.

BTW, Jim it is not all about the revenue. Never has been, that is a fallacy. This site more or less pays for itself. Do you know how expensive bandwidth is in Iceland? Do you care? Every time I have talked to Oli about these things it has never been about the revenue. Talk about accuracy.

This member thinks he is reaching a big audience, but I have seen the raw numbers and I will say most members quit reading that thread 40 or so pages ago. In other words, the audience is very very small and getting smaller by the day.

I think some people are gonna bitch, piss and moan no matter what. They don't like what others are talking about, or they don't want other people reading what other members are talking about, so they do the only thing they "collectively" know how to do and that of course it bitch, piss, moan, cry and whine. Waaaa Waaaa Waaaaa (lol)

It's some of the same people over and over as since before this OT section, obviously. It's a sickness.

So now what, thread limits and member post per thread limit ? (lol) Unbelievable.

Anyhows, thank you Oil for this OT section, I really like it over here and I wouldn't bitch, piss or moan about anything. I enjoy the discussions and members who post what they want to discuss. 

Some appreciate it, some don't.

        I honestly am not up to date on the OT threads...The topics do not really interest me...My only point is that some threads become a bit of an obsession for some... It may be keeping folks from engaging in more interesting and fresh topics...To each their own...Just my opinion...: )

That is what it looks like. 3 posts per thread in a row per person, only 10 total in any one thread. Only 2 threads per page per person, only 20 total posts a day, BUT ALL THIS IS ONLY IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE MESSAGE OR PERSON. otherwise all is good. NOT.


The bias in it is just astounding.

Extremely long threads will eventually bog down Oli's servers.
That's why many other forums have a post or page limit per thread.  When they get close, or to, that limit, a mod starts a "sequel" thread with the same topic, and locks the old one.

It saves bandwidth, and keeps threads readable.

It shouldn't matter what the subject is, there reaches a point when a thread is just too danged long, and a new thread needs to be opened.

I see nothing wrong with the threads, with large number of pages.  I do think, that Oli needs to do something with how many pages are showing. Just so it doesn't take up so much room!
Like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 click on last number and the next 10 or 20 appear or he could make it something like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80...

Good question beetree :)  Because we do have the 82 pages of the 26 yr old thread and a whopping 136 pages for the word associate thread lol!!! Well done BabyEagle! For making 2 very popular threads :) lol !!!

Next couple of weeks Oli's a bit busy but after that I'm sure he'll come up with something to solve this problem.

Not sure what dog forums have to do with our OT section slamdunc because this section has nothing to do with dogs! I could see if you were looking for a puppy and you didn't like what a breeder was saying in the OT, you might decide not to go with them. But other than that, I don't get the point you were trying to make.

I'm also not sure why the attitude, by some, because it's BE's thread and she hasn't complained about it being taken over.  He could make a thread on each different conspiracy or anti government belief he has and completely fill up the first page with HIS threads, however, he has kept it to ONE thread. Don't like what he finds interesting or what he believes in? Then don't read it. Very simple :)
