While I agree with educating the public on dogs, the real concern of the taxpayers in this situation is not dangerous dogs, it's how their money is being spent. Levine et al have tried to convince the CA taxpayers that they are supporting the dog breeders of CA  with their hard earned tax money by picking up the responsibility those breeders are neglecting, that of the dogs they have bred that have become unwanted and are now in shelters. The supporters of this bill, the politicos and the celebrity spokepersons, are taking those half truths to the public and presenting them as the gospel with no solid figures to back their accusations. They won't even acknowledge the real fact that many millions a  year of CA taxpayers' money is spent on feral cats, not unwanted dogs,  and the number of dogs in state supported CA shelters continues to drop every year as more breed clubs establish their own shelters and as fewer dogs are being bred due to the confines of local laws.  Has-beens like Bob Barker and Bettty White whose egos drive them to try to stay before the camera rather than retire gracefully to spend their millions, have been spouting off about the millions of dollars taken from the taxpayers' pockets so that CA residents can continue to breed dogs, not report their income and further screw both the state and the federal government. Mr. Barker recently admitted that he really did know much about this bill in the first place and I doubt Betty White does either.   These are the sorts of lies that dog breeders need to be using to demonstrate to the public that Levine et al are spin doctors with hidden agendas.

This is politics in it's most basic form, another attempt to get into to the private lives of citizens in areas where no politician should ever dare to go. Never before has the warning " Big Brother is Watching You "- been more meaningful to the future of this country. What's next? Hopefully Levine and his PETA backers have learned a lesson, but I doubt it.....they will be back, but I'm pretty sure dog breeders in CA will be ready for them once again.

What you can do as GSD breeders is to accept the  responsibillity of taking back the dogs you breed that are no longer wanted by the owner for whatever reason. Don't tell them the dog will be put down, don't tell them it's their problem to find another home.  It wouldn't hurt to start putting something on your internet sites that promise you will take back any dog  you have bred that cannot be kept by the buyer. I realize that many GSD breeders feel that once the dog is sold, that's the end of their responsibility, in fact there have been some very heated discussions here on that very same topic.  It's time now to step up to the plate and take these dogs back so they don't end up in shelters supported by the government. If you don't do that, you are a big part of the problem.  I'd also suggest not buying a dog from a breeder who will not give  you a written promise that he/she will take back that dog or at least work with you to find a new  home for it. It might be a good time to do some soul searching about importing so many GSD's into the US.  Times are changing and dog owners and breeders need to revise the way they do business if they want to stay in business.

You should see he "Heart" bill that passed in Albuquerque

The women who got it passed (she is on the city counsel) wanted to tie our Redlight Cameras to the bill as an afterthought:

If your picture gets taken running a red light you can either pay the heavty fine or get your pet payed or neutered ???????????

No people this was not a joke, she was dead serious

Blitzen, another great post

The Good Shepherd - Given what I've seen passing for legislation for the past decade, no I don't think this is a joke. And please don't get me started on the damn photo tickets - how that is considered constitutional I don't know. You are supposed to sign a ticket before it is considered legally binding (at least in my state).

Congrats.

Isn't Bob Barker giving Rosie O'Donel his "price is right" job?  I always did like Bob Barker but Rosie isn't "fit" for the job. LMAO
