4Pack, we keep putting these extreme left wing, bed wetting cry babies in office and we won't have a choice but to put down our dangerous breed!!
We are in a alot of trouble here... In the very near future I am afraid..

You just had to spoil it by name calling which is so polarizing. This is what happens when we degenerate something we all agree on into a right vs left discussion. The truth of the matter is a long time ago becoming a politician was a higher calling, it used to be honorable REGARDLESS of what side of the isle you sat on. Now, I don't trust ANY of them republican or democrat.
by jdh on 12 July 2007 - 05:07
Sue,
You are quite correct that few if any of them are trustworthy. Equally disconcerting is that they are in such competition with each other that they have abandoned what few good positions they once had in order to "steal" each others very bad positions. And so we have a spendthrift president under whom government and debt just keep growing, and a bunch of baboons in Congress who would like to spend even more and raise taxes, and increase regulations and restrictions. Unfortunately most voters have a strong party identity, and ignore or are simply oblivious to policies and positions. The Democrats jump on one BS bandwagon after another, and their constituents do nothing to stop them because they have a greater sense of loyalty to their party than to their country. They even jump on the Republican band wagon for colossal blunders such as the Iraq war only to walk away and leave our allies high and dry when polls no longer favor the war. Perhaps no one remembers Vietnam. Johnson (as we later discovered), knowing full well that the Gulf of Tonkin "incident" was NOT an attack, but rather the result of an accidental explosion, asked Congress for a declaration of war citing intelligence that he KNEW was fraudulent. The prospect of kicking Ho Chi Minh's ass was wildly popular at the time, so congress jumped at the opportunity to show off, and we were at war. Fast foreward 7 years and 54000 casualties, everyone is ready to abandon our ally who has little chance of surviving with the Communist North receiving the full support of China. Suddenly every pot smoking flower child is an expert on military strategy, and the Congressional apes only know what the polls say. After the Saigon airlift congress refused to even authorize an aid package to our stranded allies. In the rush for political redemption they rendered the service and tremendous loss of OUR soldiers virtually meaningless as we turned and ran just short of victory. They also left our allies to be brutally butchered and forced into prison camps where they were worked to death much like those in Nazi Germany. I have listened to countless smug self satisfied former hippies brag about their participation in the rallies that led to withdrawal. In my eyes they have the blood of countless thousands on their hands. By conservative estimates close to half a million Vietnamese died in the ocean attempting to escape the brutality of Ho Chi Minh. In the labor camps survival was approximately 20%. I only bring this up to illustrate how destructive and hypocritical these supposed political movements are. These are the politics of the left: to try to convince us that we need more regulation and more bureaucracy. While the Republicans are becoming more left leaning with every poll, they do still maintain a few standards on personal freedom. I hope that more than a few take the time to read, as most non Liberals seem to guard their opinion for fear of reprisal. As I have stated in previous posts I am NOT a Republican. I have never voted for Bush because even if I did 200 times Massachusetts ALWAYS goes Democrat. I vote for the Libertarian candidate to maintain ballot access which is constantly threatened by the D's and R's who do NOT want a fair fight. Libertarianism is NOT party politics, but a matter of principal. We believe in the things that most people consider inherent to America, but that the D's and R's seek to take away. THANK YOU for taking a few minutes to read a perspective that likely differs from your own. Jonah

Kudo, Jonah, I am a left over from the Nam era and still stinging from the loss of lives there that only served to make the rich richer. War is always a great money maker for those who already have more than they can ever spend in a lifetime. The solution? Beats me, all I know is that the last 7 years have been some of the most tragic and embarassing in US history.
Yes, Animules, this is a political post and I'm not apologizing for not supporting the Bush regime. I could say far worse than I've said.

Jonah, I understand what you are saying, nothing in politics is simple. For every bone head move pulled by one party an equally bone head move has been pulled by the other. I sat at my fathers knee, a colonel during WW2, Korea & Vietnam, so believe it or not, I have heard all this before. I'm so tired of the rhetoric & name calling. The blame game only serves to further polarize people (divide & conquer) and I'm not going to play that game anymore. The issue of spay/neuter is a perfect example. Perhaps instead of name calling it would have been better to find out what other positions people had in common.

Another good post, Sueincc. Frankly I get so frustrated by all of this that I can't always see the big picture. All I can think is - what are we doing? Thanks for putting it all in the proper prosepctive; it truly is a complex issue. There is a postive, I believe some are working on a compromise they hope will satisfy the general public and the politicos in CA.

People wonder about some of the things that can be done to lower the number of dogs going to shelters, here are a few. If after reading these you have some ideas of your own post them and tell other people.
I am sure that the first couple are things alot of you already do.
Go out and show people(exspecially kids) your dogs, show people how much fun your dog has while its working. Work to get people interested in doing something with their dogs, agility, flyball, fresbie, obedience, schutzhund, etc. Tell people how much fun you are having working your dog(s). If you can get just a few people working and having fun with their dogs, the dogs are less likely to be thrown away. With how many people there are on this site, a few each adds up to a lot.
If you know teachers or school staff, see if you and others can bring your dogs and be a guest speaker. You'll get a chance to talk about responsible dog ownership, care and how much joy you get in working with your dog. Get them hooked on the fun of working a dog at a young age.
There are areas that have set up programs that will house pets if the owners are hospitalized. This is great two ways, the animal is not in the system and the owner isn't worried about their pet or shattered because their loved one is gone. There are other programs that will similarly house pets when someone is moving and can't have their pet for a few months until they get settled.
Areas have set up volenteer programs where people take elderly people and disabled people, that can't drive themselves, and their pets to the groomers or veterinarian.

I'll leave the politics alone...
anika bren, good job bringing the topic back on track. Be sure to find and support your local 4H dog clubs also. There are also reading programs where kids read to dogs that are having great success.

Goodbye Levine! Too many flaws in this very poorly written bill. Sounds like he's about to cry in the video link posted above.
How about writing some bills for something that can really help California?
