You can use any command in AKC obedience and the criteria is very much the same as far as heeling goes beytween the 2, just like KCzaja said... so no need for multiple commands.. what you have to do is determine where the exercises differ (about turn is different.... you can't use the dog's name in Schutzhund before the command, etc....) and plan accordingly
And like someone else said, you can always do the USA obedience program .. same obedience as the SchH titles...

I competed in Schutzhund way before AKC obedience and have done well in both. In general, Shutzhund dogs heel with more drive and AKC is more accurate. Heeling is heeling in my opinion and the AKC judges appreciate an in drive focused dog just as much as a Schutzhund judge. The wrapped around your leg barking and whining heeling would definitely not work in the ACK ring though. They deduct for noise and crowding much sooner than Schutzhund. Dogs need to be much less dog and people aggressive in AKC, where there is usually no way to avoid passing within six inches of fifty dogs on your way to the ring. Also, many AKC shows are indoors, with metal roofs, where any environmental overstimulation shows up in a shepherd. Both different organizations have their pros and cons, but a good dog and a good trainer can do well in both.

Changer, my Kati does much better at an indoor show then outdoors, I found that out a her first trail (outdoors), I could have sworn she was "tracking" during the heel LOLOLOL, never the less we managed to get her 1st leg. We finished her CD in the next two shows indoors and she did much better.
Kati was supposed to be my pet/therapy dog. My breeder knew thats what I wanted to do, well, things changed so now we do Obedience. Kati really does not have the drive to do Schutzhund we will stick with Obedience and Rally.
Duke on the other hand has a ton of drive so I will try Schutzhund with him (and Obedience of course).
