Blitzen,  Thank you for being so conscientious about buying American!  But realistically, how many others will spend that amount of time to buy a product that is usually more expensive and of equal or lesser quality than an import?  I've heard that manufacturing is no longer expected to be our country's strength.  We are still at the top in the invention and technology areas, but unfortunately everything is quickly copied.  One thing I like about developing our energy resources, if we can do it cleanly, is that you either have them or you don't, and supposedly we do. Our compeition in this area would be naturally limited. The other advantage of energy independence and marketing is that we wouldn't have to worry so much about what is going on in the Middle East.  Isn't oil the real reason we usually go to war?

It's been my experience that the majority of made in America products I have purchased are better than their Asian counterparts, but you are right, they are more expensive. However, I still opt to pay $90 for a pair of sneakers made in the US instead of 3 pairs of $30.00 sneakers made in Asia. I put about 50 miles a week on my walking sneakers and think that I get at least 4 times the wear from the US made brands. There are some exceptions, but not many I've found. Frankly I'd rather pay more for a product made in the US than one of comparable quality made elsewhere. I just think it's the right thing to do for now.

Buying American is always the right thing to do in my opinion.  But try to find electronics!  Cars are another area where the imports are often a better value.  Also, not everyone can afford to pay more for American products so it isn't an option for them.  There is a Federal Trade Law which says country of origin, if not US made, must be displayed on the packaging.  It is also encouraged to have some mention of where a product was made in any advertising.  In spite of the ABC news series on buying American, most vendors can't or won't tell you where products are from if the box isn't in front of them.  Certainly having the name of an American company on the label doesn't mean anything anymore.

Blitzen, what brand of sneakers do you find are made in the USA ? I have not been able to find any shoes made in this country. I can't wear shoes with any heal lift at all because my knees are so messed up. Finding shoes I can wear is a real pita for me. They also have to be high tops because of the steel plate in my ankle...regular shoes hit under the plate and feels awful. Finding anything US made is getting to be more and more difficult. Speaking of renewable energy, solar panels were invented here and guess where they are manufactured? Yep, China. Companies don't care about this country, it's all about the biggest profit.

I was shocked to find out WHAT is NoT made in America.

GOT into a heated arguement with my son about HUNTER FAN....MINE IS  a few yrs old ,keeps breaking and my electrician son has to take it apart ..

HE muttered , if the D&)(*chinese crap was an American made fan It would not look like this inside...lol

Blitzen:

Can you explain to members here how OBAMA CARE IS WORKING SO WELL FOR US SENIORS?

Explain how the MANDATE now in practice by OUR pres starting in JAN of 2012, says in his
one of 159 new COMMITTEES/BOARDS, appointed by OBAMA, and  he has in control  included in the OBAMACARE BILL passed.

Explain to us about the " Independent Payment Advisory BOARD" and who its 15 members are and what they do for us concerning MEDICARE?

Facts most Americans have no clue about..

  YR

KEith:  ED Klein has long lists of his sources and in the book   THE AMATEUR , the facts are also reiterated over and over by others in the book. THE back cover shows how much acclaimed he is and I am sure....YOU have some links for lies he tells.

Your absolutely right Yr! Walmart has destroyed small business in this country, but look at wall mart parking lot on the weekends or holidays...packed ! People just don't get it, they don't have jobs and so they need to buy cheap. But they don't seem to realize the store they used to work at went out of business because of WALLFREAKING MART, where they are spending their precious money! Sam Walton is turning over in his grave! Used to see Wallmart trucks going down the interstate with an American flag logo , proudly made in America, or something to that effect. Then the old man died and with him went any loyalty to this country by that company.

by Blitzen on 19 August 2012 - 23:08

YR, I'm not sure what you're talking about, so this may answer your questions. If not, let me know. Medicare is working fine for me and everyone else I know who uses it. What's your complaint?

http://www.factcheck.org/2012/05/romneys-gross-exaggeration-on-obamacare/

Romney also recycles an old claim when attacking Obama’s health care law for creating “an unelected board [that] will tell seniors what treatments Medicare’s gonna cover.” The reference is to the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a 15-member panel of doctors and medical professionals, economists and health care management experts, and representatives for consumers and seniors established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Its purpose is to find ways to slow the growth in Medicare spending.

Though it feels like we are beating a dead horse with this one, we will continue to reiterate that IPAB is not going to “tell seniors what treatments Medicare’s gonna cover.” The health care law explicitly states that IPAB “shall not include any recommendation to ration health care, raise revenues or Medicare beneficiary premiums … increase Medicare beneficiary cost sharing (including deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments), or otherwise restrict benefits or modify eligibility criteria.” (See page 490.) The board’s recommendations, furthermore, will go before Congress, where they can be replaced with alternative cuts or rejected outright by a three-fifths majority.

And while the panel is unelected, the law says the president will appoint the members in consultation with Congress and with consent of the Senate. All three elected bodies of government will have a say in who is on this board.

Is this what you are talking about? I do agree most don't know what they are talking about because they don't do their due dillegence and  believe eveything they hear on Fox News and read on the conservative websites. That wouldn't be you, would it

The truth about Cadillacs, Made-in-China....

The reason is simple.  Manufacturers know that, under the current system, they can produce in China and sell to the United States, but they will not be allowed to produce in the United States and sell to China -- all because the Obama administration does not have the intelligence or will to invoke the WTO rule for trade-deficit countries invoked by President Nixon on August 15, 1971, when he imposed an across-the-board 10% tariff which balanced U.S. trade by 1973.
