Let nothing stand in the way of progress! And it is that definition— peculiarly WASPish, that has driven the conquering model for Imperialism onto the New World and then some. Did I say that right? LOL I don't think the idea of industrialization is bad at all, what was bad was that it did not factor in the degradation of the environment. So, maybe that does tie into a denial of reasonable sustainability.

OK vk4, here is the simple version:
The colonial British Empire was fueled by a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant love for "Progress". I say this as a term of endearment, too. It was a mission and calling to expand, and acquire for their glory. The contemplation that the explore-able and plunder-able would one day have a limit was never a concerning issue or a reason not to pursue... "Progress"!
Industrialization just increased the progress. Just another ponzi scheme!
