Oh, and I think it's pretty much common knowledge that you breed from the best, not the mediocre. So why would I breed a dog that has medium everything when it is so easy for any species to dilute into nothingness?

I only ask because your response did not appear to address the question asked by the OP but to a) take an ill-informed jab at all show lines, and b) turn what was originally a good topic into yet another opportunity to bash Molly.

There were some very good and reasonable responses to this topic, notably those by Shaeferhund1 and Silbersee (imagine that, both Germans); you should go back and read them.

No, I was trying to make a comment about diluting working ability while breeding dogs.

But that's ok; at least you were able to get an ill-informed jab in at ME.

Kids! We almost made it 4 pages without making the hall monitors do their job.

Balance does not imply medium anything.

Well, that is exactly why there are show lines and working lines, pretty much in a nutshell. But back to the topic at hand: the very few dogs I breed are very intelligent and healthy and do well in homes that are combination of work/pet or sport/pet. I am not a bit worried about placing them in pet homes; I only had a problem with that once, and I took the dog back and placed it with a Sch helper. It was just too energetic for the home it was in. My fault, there.

Sorry, Sam.  It often appears to me that some people here think that they make their dogs look better by criticizing others; I am merely trying to encourage them to let their dogs stand on their own merits and accomplishments.

OK, OK, never mind. I thought I was on topic. Silly me.

Actually I have done an extremely good job overall, breeding for exactly what I want to see in my own dogs - dogs that CAN AND DO live in the house, as a companion for family including children and CATS too - same dog being quite capable of standing on the sport podium, finding a lost person or bringing down a bad guy, or doing whatever it is the handler is capable and dedicated enough to do with the dog.   I like a balanced dog that can be both excellent in the work, and excellent in the home.  And I produce that dog, consistantly.  As do MANY other breeders that I respect.  Nuff said.

@Sam

Nice try at stimulating intelligent discussion on a very interesting and pertinent topic.

I wish your question had elicited responses from more workingline breeders, and who knows maybe it still will?

Alas!  Idiots, Morons, and Drama Queens doth corrupteth and defile all environs into which they crawl....
