I'm sorry you feel that way Beetree. It would have been nice to see your thoughts about people not reading threads before commenting.

I still stand by my decision to get it back on topic because it is a good topic (and over 3 pages of running in another direction was being pretty fair IMO)!

When I saw her post I thought how great! It might just get someone, to stop and read, before making a comment on something! But now even if a person decided to go back a page or two before making a comment, it would still have nothing to do with the original post.

Since you asked, I have been guilty of skimming posts and that has ended up with me getting bit in the butt. By Mystere, if I recall, so I try never to do that if I am going to post.  It can be hard sometimes if one is in a rush, but people like Deanna have a way of teaching a lesson, hopefully one that is not lost.

About the number of pages on a thread... I fail to see why that matters in the least, especially when moderating threads because, and this is my opinion, this was a perfect case of near- topic wandering that was also no harm, no foul... it could have died a natural death. I am done.( No need for a response.)

Hodie, I thought what you thought, too. Wouldn't it have been better to just leave it go here instead of another OT? It can be a gamble.

BT - yes, my point exactly. It is, of course, a judgement call, but sometimes discretion is the better part of valor and letting this go, unless the OP complained, seemed harmless. In any case, it is just my ranting and I do give SPIX the benefit of the doubt, just trying to do the right thing. The OP is right. Too often here things degenerate because people don't bother to read. Too often deals for dogs go wrong because people don't speak the same language and have never studied a foreign language and have no clue about how easy it is to misunderstand things said or written. It is also true here that so many do not see the OP of certain threads are not native English speakers. It is almost always obvious to me because I have studied the language and syntax. And when I see that someone is not a native speaker, I try to write differently to minimize misunderstandings.

Now, so as not to go more OT.....I am off to other things.

        As long as something good came of it, going off topic is fine with me,,,,,
