Thanks Louise, I failed to mention those things also....

ROFL...unless you're a big name handler, then your dog can cower, snap, and go on to win best of breed. No one remembers that big stink in FL several years ago?

I was at an AKC event for obedience and while wandering around, saw them photographing the winning conformation GSD. The things nails were digging into the platform they had him stacked on, and when the photog's flash went off, the dog flew off it in a panic and hid behind the handler. I guess that judge wasn't too great at picking out temperament.

KCzaja,  Not all judges, have the same ethics......The question about temperament came up because I said there was a particular judge that placed alot of emphasies on temperament....Obviously the judge you saw did not  let temperament influence his decision on his winner......Some of us believe that temperament is the foundation of our dogs...Without solid temperament, there isn't much to work with.......However, not everyone feels that way, regardless of what country, state or town they live in.....

That's the judges idea of a temperment test?  No wonder the ASS  is in such a sorry state. I've seen the AKC breed ring, but I can't believe a judge would try to pass off that kind of bullshit about testing temperment with a straight face.

Actually, its not the judges idea of what temperament is, it is AKC...AKC wrote the guideline for it.   Its just up to each individual judge how much emphasis they put on it.....That is not the only method AKC judges temperament..... There is another method that involves other things....I'm not here to defend anyone or AKC. I am not here to say its right or wrong only that there is some type of temperament testing going on.... So I am not going to respond to this  topic of temperament any more......No argument or debate from me...To each his own opinion!!!!.

What you truly don't want to give any credence to is the judges for the International CACIB shows (with written critiques for each dog) where a dog can complete an international championship in one weekend.  Most of these judges have little credibility within the breeds they judge.  What I've observed is that people take their virtually pet quality German-line or AKC all-breed type dogs to compete at these shows and boast of wins they could achieve nowhere else. Within a class, there may be more than one dog with V-1, V-2 ratings respectively. Many of these dogs could never receive a single V rating under an SV judge.

The German/American crosses are winning here. It appears some of the American breeders are enhancing their program with the addition of some German blood. The dogs have more color, bone, and a few other traits from animal to animal. The crosses placed first under two judges at the two day event I attended recently.

Day 2 & 3 of the dog show went much better :) Haunter took home 2 blue ribbons for being the only dog in his class. LOL. The judges were nice and we had a good time. That realy is what it was all about. Im glad I went. Thank you to all who left nice comments!

Friday night they had a fun match so 3 of my progeny pups showed. All 3 got 1st place in their class and little Jetta took best in breed! Their owners had a good time too.

I hope more people start showing their imports in the AKC ring. The breeder of my boy breeds Am/German crosses and has been showing in the AKC ring for over a year. The half brother of my boy(same dam) went Winners Dog at 6 months his first time in the ring (he beat a dog bred and owned by 2 AKC judges), a half sister of my boy (same sire) went Best of Breed her first time in the ring at 7 months old, another of the breeder's male Am/Ger crosses went Winners Dog his first show at 9 months old, and 2 more of her Am/Ger cross bitches are pointed. The sire of my boy is an Am/Ger cross working ranch dog that went into the AKC ring with no training and took 2 major reserves, and I believe never lost his class while he was being shown. All but 1 were handled by the breeder's 13 y/o daughter.

My boy just turned 9 months and is completing his Service Dog training and will be going to some AKC shows this fall or next spring.

Hey There Dog Lady!

Sounds to me like you are showing your dogs for all of the right reasons and taking it as seriously as it deserves to be taken.

You seem to have a great sense of humour, and that is ALWAYS good!

Personally, I would go to considerable effort to show Della under the Mean Judge again.  I might say something like, "I know you said that you didn't want to see Della in the ring again, but I think Della wanted to see YOU again.  She REALLY likes people with stern and uncompromising demeanors, so here we are!"

But Hey!  That's just Me...

Glad to hear you had a good time.

SteveO
