Bzaa please do not take this as me attacking your ideas or you. I respect you. I like your civilized responses. There is nothing personal. I am just fascinated by ideas like you have. Let me ask you one more question. We have agreed that thugs will always have guns. So what are you going to do if the person harming your loved ones will have gun. Invite him to a fair fight based on greco roman wrestling rules? I'd rather use gun. My preference is, so to speak,.
never to take a knife to a gun fight.
By the way little statistic here. The violent crime rate in the UK is five times higher than the rate in the US. Britain is the most violent country in Europe, with violent crime rates ahead of the US and South Africa. Ignoring of inconvenient facts like these is not surprising, given that a 2002 study found that as many as 11 million crimes (some serious) were omitted from the British government's official figures.
You may want to check these facts in it's entirety.

Prager, I do not believe for one minute that the UK is as dangerous a place to live as you seem to think. Yes we have crime, some horrendous, what we do not have is gun toting citizens which I am personally happy about. I can only speak of where I live, where if there was a gun crime it would be extremely rare, it just does not happen. I have lived in the same place now for over 40 years and there has NEVER been an incident with a gun. I can walk down the street at anytime of the day and know I am 100% safe, I very rarely lock my doors, everybody knows everybody, that's just the way it is. Is it like this all over? Hell no, I see the crimes in the news, and in the news papers everyday, and everyday I know how lucky I am. I wouldn't change it for the world, so if you really want a debate about the crime rate in the UK you are asking the wrong person, IT JUST DOES NOT HAPPEN IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS. I do not need a gun or any weapon to defend, and I do not want to own one, end of. Now that is just me, but I'm confident you would find the majority of the UK citizens would not want gun ownership for personal protection made legal.
I think maybe you and I have taken this thread way of topic, don't you?
